According to Ken Rosenthal, that approval has been granted by the O’s owner to Dan Duquette as of Tuesday evening. The Orioles aren’t setting up for a complete teardown that would rule them out of contention next year as well as the rest of this year, but they are going to try to add some assets to the system that they wouldn’t get if they completely stood pat.

3. The Yankees tried to get Jose Quintana and believed they had an offer that included Rutherford commensurate with that of the offer from the Cubs (who did land the lefty). In fact, that the White Sox knew the Yankees’ system so well helped facilitate these talks. But not landing their first choice for a starter in this trade market convinced the Yanks that they just may have to go with what they have — lessened by the loss of Michael Pineda to Tommy John surgery. Thus, they will try to bulk up the pen to lessen the burden on the rotation with Chapman, Betances, Robertson, Kahnle, Adam Warren and perhaps the rising Chad Green, though these pen additions also could move Green to the rotation.

I said earlier in the week the Pineda news was big for us in the starter market. Never like to see an injury but this took out our biggest competition in the starter market.
