Nice little matchup we have tonight with Hunter Brown going against former LSU Tiger Kevin Gausman.

Gausman has been an ace for the most part this season with 6 of his 12 starts going for 6+ IP and 0 ER and 3 more QS... but he has been WTFBlownUp twice, including a 4.2 IP, 7 ER outing against the Astros earlier this season.

The Astros as a whole have his Gausman very well, with the only exceptions being Maldy (duh) who is 0/9 and Yordan (not duh) who is 0/7.

Brown is coming off his worst start of the season against Minnesota, but he's still been solid for a rookie. No one on the Blue Jays has faced him in MLB action until tonight.

Things we can mark in ink right now: Yainer to the bench and Maldy's 0/9 in the lineup. Meyers to the bench as well after collecting 4 hits.

I'd even put a bet on Julks to the bench as well because A) he hit a grand slam last night, and B) he homered (as did Meyers) against Gausman last time.

That means we're looking at some Dubonnaroo in LF with Grae Kessinger getting his first MLB start at 2B. Book it.

I'm okay with it. The DAT must persevere.

“Your goal shouldn’t be to buy players. Your goal should be to buy wins.” —Peter Brand

That’s precisely what I’ve been doing. I just put $38.40 on the Blue Jays to win, -118. I usually bet $30 against the Astros if they are the favorites, and I’ll bet whatever it takes for me to win $30 if the Astros are the underdogs, which is the case today.

So with Salazar gone, Dusty has a new built in excuse to not play Diaz. If he plays at DH, we don't have a backup catcher and would have to sacrifice the DH if he entered the field. And we can't play him at first more than once a month because first is locked down by a quality veteran.

Diaz. Has to be. What is he? 6 of his last 9? Way too hot! Needs a day off.

I listened to his interview on KBME earlier today and Dusty said, “Catching just isn’t hitting,” and that some players (Diaz) need “On the job training, and veterans (Maldy) are providing that training.”

So what I gather from this is Dusty feels like, “Yes, Diaz can hit, but lacks what it takes to call a game, and Maldy does not lack that ability,” so this is why we’re seeing more Maldy and less Diaz.

Dana still learning the chess moves needed to counteract Dusty’s stubbornness and room temp IQ

The word you're thinking of is "Coach" Dusty. Maldy can coach without occupying space on the field.

What if we told Dusty the staff ERA is lower with Diaz.

Bro should have consulted with Click before he took the job. By taking on the Astros GM position, you're agreeing to be undercut by your field manager who has the ear of the owner to have you castrated even if you win the world series.

So I guess Julks is giving Chas on the job training?

Julks is more than likely a AAAA guy with a 4th OF upside. Dana will have to make him disappear before the deadline to keep him from having playoff fricking starts.

I think Dana is going to trade for a bat (hopefully with some pop) who can handle RHP as insurance for Brantley. In the process, he's going to try to process Julks.

Ahh ahh ahh!

GM of the Astros is like trying to diffuse a bomb except no matter which wire you cut to try to make the team better, Dusty gets you fired.

Dana has something in his favor that matches Dusty. He'll be able to get away with some shite.

I still think he’s there to rebuild the farm and Lord Bagwell is handling the free agents. You could tell how annoyed he was when he was filling in for Blum re criticism of Abreu.

Also, nice job by FODB of not getting the new kid any reps once the Blue Jays threw in the towel last night. Must not have been who he wanted called up.

If he's smart, he probably knows that's the only upgrade he could make where Dusty will actually play the guy. LF/DH. I know he loves Julks but I don't think he'll be as stubborn putting him in the lineup as he was/is with Maldy/Abreu/Yuli. Veteran thangs.

On that note, if Brantley is somehow healthy at the deadline, I think they'll stand pat for the same reason.

I'll also wager a guess that Chas is part of a deal for a pitcher so Julkamania is here to stay.

I would rather deal a Clifford or Barber at this point than Chas or Jake I think. They may not hold the same value but I think what we need we can get with those guys.

Careful. You’re talking about a man that kept putting Myles Straw in the lineup.

But you know, he's got to get his feet wet somewhere and not gonna be a better time that when Dusty sends him in to pinch hit for Doobedoo, Bregs, or Pena, in the 8th or 9th when the bases are loaded and we are down by 3!
