Coming to you live with another installment of the (Almost) Daily Astros Thread.
Four games under .500 and 2.5 games back from the division lead having played 84 games.
8-0 loss yesterday?
Playoff chances appear to be dwindling.

It’s time to start talking about what we should be rooting for
Deadline is less than a month away and we aren’t gonna sell shite if we keep winning series
I officially threw in the towel after losing that Angels series earlier in the month but then of course we’ve gone on to win our next 4 series after that
The worst case for any franchise imo is consistently being an 80 win team and that’s what we are (unless Javier somehow regains his form and Imai continues what he’s been doing and we all of a sudden have a very strong top of the rotation, but that’s a different conversation)
Without a fire sale we are staring at a handful of years of mediocrity.
Personally speaking, I’d much prefer to spend a few years losing and rebuilding so we can have another ~5 years of playoff runs
And I especially think we are at a unique point with the lockout looming that it’s the perfect time to sell everyone (I know that’s not happening) and restock the farm

To be fair, outside of the Yankees and we all know they are a fraudulent regular season merchants, that’s the entirety of the AL. I think as fans we tend to lose sight of the rest of the competition because we are hyper focused on our team. There’s a lot of teams in contention with as big of warts as this team that haven’t had to go through the injury stuff this team has. Am I saying this is a World Series or the best team in the AL? Absolutely not. But they aren’t all that much different from who they are competing with.
I’m always team go for it (relative to what you can spend) if you can make the playoffs. Is that foolish? Maybe, but I’m not super infatuated with selling off just bc you can get prospects that might contribute one day especially with another three weeks to go before you have to make that decision. Now moving off big money anchor contracts is a different story, always pro that if there is a taker.
They’ve sort of capitalized on the weaker part of the schedule for sure and they have a pretty long runway of playing middling to bad teams until the deadline (Twins, Rays, Nats, Rangers, O’s, Marlins, White Sox, Angels). They are middling to bad themselves so the players can show if they want the FO to add some help or move off valuable assets. Feels to early to call even though I’ve punted on this team like 10 times already this season

I think there is a third scenario where they have a winning season or barely make the playoffs and sell over the course of the next two years. I’m not sure how comfortable I am with Dana or his cronies doing the selling this season anyway. I think we get a new GM no matter what happens this season.
Our best players this season are either Luhnow or Click draftees or acquisitions. (I don’t count Hader for any of the three GMs as that was a Crane move) That is pathetic.

Heard that Dana didn’t go to the scouting combine, which is shocking because scouting is his thing, because he’s focused on helping the big league club only right now.

Anyone else notice a lack of Bagwell this season?

Cam is not as embarrassing as Matthews.

Is it me, or is Dung locating every pitch in the exact same spot in the zone?
And Blum’s call of Wham, Bam, Thank You Cam would have had Ashby pulled out the booth mid-game

Is this Yed's first rest day?

I doubt it
Mostly b/c that would make too much sense for a DH
Can’t give Espada that much credit
