CSB...Lance Berkman Edition
via the Josh Innes Show on SportsTalk 790 (KBME Houston)
quote:
During Game 5 of the 2005 NLCS, Lance tried to make a deal with God. He prayed, "Lord if you allow us (the Houston Astros) to win this game, I will give all the praise to you during the post-game show. When the Astros lost, Lance asked the Lord, "Hey, I thought we had an understanding, and now you're not going to get any recognition during the post-game interview." Lance was in the clubhouse, sulking over the loss, looking up at the TV, which was showing Albert Pujols being interviewed, and the first thing Albert did was give praise to God. This humbled Lance, and it taught him how to pray better. Lance's next in-game prayer came in the 2011 World Series, where instead of asking God for the win, he asked the Lord to allow him to play to highest of his abilities. And it was in that game that Lance won and was the hero.

Felt like I was watching major league this series...

Sounds like the thinking of a 12 year old child.

Posted this in the other thread:
Encouraging if he is indeed a late starter

Alex Bregman first 35 games of season
2017: .345 OBP/.676 OPS, 7 2B, 0 HR, 8 RBI, 14 BB/26 SO, 94 wRC+
2018: .370 OBP/.739 OPS, 9 2B, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 22 BB/19 SO, 113 wRC+ #Astros

Also, the biggest difference in the offense, IMO:
quote:
Not Digging the Long Ball? The Astros rank 18th currently in HRs in MLB. Last season, they ranked 1st in HRs for much of the season before finishing 2nd overall.

Astros when batting with RISP
AVG: .249 (14th in MLB, 8th in AL)
OBP: .329 (19th, 8th)
SLG: .397 (16th, 8th)
Somewhat surprising, thought these would be lower.
But like I said, not many HRs is killing the team
ETA: and I think the guys know this, which results in a lot of the swings we are taking. Instead of just trying to drive pitches and make good contact, we’re trying to hit a ton of HRs

just seems like everyone is trying to be too Patient early in the count, and far too aggressive late in the count.
Bad combination for weak contact and strikeouts
Which maybe is a result of this:
We were at 65.8% z-swing last year (20th in mlb)
This year we are at 63.3% (28th in MLB)
Zone contact is down from 88% (1st in mlb) to 85% (14th)

Which maybe is a result of this:
quote:
Last season, the Red Sox took more strikes than any team in MLB, and their offense struggled. When Alex Cora took over, he gave his hitters a simple instruction: Swing more. Now the Red Sox take the FEWEST strikes of any team in MLB. And they are raking.

So the last two posts prove what many of us have always claimed. Hudgens is incompetent. And it's clear we're missing Cora's influence (which used to fix what Hudgens would break). The boys at the LLC better wake the hell up.

Kinda harsh, but you are not wrong.

Agree, I think the ability is there, clearly.
But they don’t have a Cora/Beltran to bounce things off of.

Now he needs to learn how to get out of the way of baserunners.
And position himself better for the relay throw.

This is nice, hopefully he can keep it up

Also, anyone been hearing about the other giant we have in AA? Taylor Jones, had a .354 BA and 1.000+ OPS, won Astros minor leaguer of the month
He’s 6’7, plays 1B

Haven't had much luck with 1B prospects lately.
