After a split of 2 games in Houston, the Astros are in Boston for the next 3 games of the ALCS. Houston hasn't had a starting pitcher make it past the 5th inning since Game 1 of the ALDS, yet the Astros have won 3 of those 5 games.

The pitching matchup is a rematch of the 11-2 Astros win in Houston on Memorial Day in the first meeting of the season between these two teams. Jose Urquidy will make his first appearance in more than 2 weeks since going 6 innings in the regular-season finale against Oakland on Oct. 3. Eduardo Rodriguez pitched 5 solid innings in his last outing, an ALDS Game 4 start against Tampa Bay. Here is a closer look at some 2021 numbers for both pitchers:

Jose Urquidy (8-3, 3.62 ERA, 0.99 WHIP regular season; 1st 2021 postseason appearance)
May 31 vs. Boston (11-2 Houston), W, 6IP, 1ER, 3H, 1BB, 9K

Eduardo Rodriguez (13-8, 4.74, 1.39 regular season; 2021 Postseason: 0-1, 6 2/3 IP, 5.40 ERA, 1.05)
May 31 at Houston (2-11 Houston), L, 4 2/3IP, 6ER, 7H, 2BB, 4K
June 10 vs. Houston (12-8 Boston), ND, 4 2/3IP, 6ER, 6H, 3BB, 5K

With no roof at Fenway, the elements could be a factor tonight. First-pitch temp is expected to be around 53 under mostly clear skies, but the big factor might be the northwesterly wind at 12 miles an hour. But the Astros have been outstanding on the road in the playoffs since the 2019 ALCS. Houston has won 8 of its last 10 true road games in the postseason, including a 2-game sweep in Minnesota last year while excluding neutral-site games in California against Oakland and Tampa Bay (the Astros were 6-5 in those games).

The Astros took all 3 games in Washington in the 2019 World Series. A repeat of that in Boston would end the series so let's kick-start that tonight.

Encouraging. We really need a quality start from our man tonight.

Our bullpen has actually done a pretty good job in this series I’d say. Most of the Red Sox damage has been early in the games, and against the starters. If Jose can go 5-6 innings tonight, that’d be absolutely fantastic.

Urquidy feels like the perfect guy to settle the rotation. He's going to give up hits tonight because the sox lineup is red hot, but at least you know hes going to throw strikes.

Our bullpen has been better than expected with the exception of game 3 against Chicago and Odorizzi on Saturday. And really that was pretty expected from Odorizzi.

I’ve been waiting for us to implode in the bullpen and it really hasn’t happened so far. I mean our bullpen did the same thing in the postseason last year too. They perform better in the postseason, which is what you want. A lot of that is thanks to Brent Strom though

Saturday took the wind out of my sails a little bit, but still had a blast at the game.

Garcia and Odo just killed all the buzz by continually being behind in the count.

Think Urqudiy could be the right guy in the right spot to get the pitching staff right on track. He's going to be all over the zone and have a good pace, need 5 quality out of him tonight.

This is the perfect opportunity for the offense to break out and put away a game early. There is nothing intimidating about Eduardo Rodriquez, and Cora has already said he's willing to use Pivetta for multiple innings tonight. Get E-Rod out of the game early, make them use their game 4 starter tonight and win a baseball game.

I was listening to Sean Salisbury interview Dan Shaughnessy from the Boston Globe the other day. He mentioned that Cora is one of the few mgrs he is aware of that is allowed to actually manage by feel…I.e the orders are not coming from upstairs. What a novel concept.

Hopeful/ expecting five good innings from urquel tonight but I said the same for games 1 and 2. Makes me feel better to know he has experience in a similar spot.

At this point, the RS are in pretty much the same place as we are. They really only have Eovaldi and Urquel is a great one to be starting this game. I think he will be ready.

Yeah, the RS hit, but so do we. There's always that bit of luck as to how the balls fall. RS have been lucky and their hard hits have been in the gaps. It's time for that luck to turn for us.
