Where in my post did I say it was irrelevant?

That's my read of the situation. That being said, who the hell designed that park so it's an actual issue?

Like someone said, if you're going to have a park like this, put a camera down the fence.

Joe West sounds awfully confident ... if he's so confident, why didn't he confirm the call instead of let it stand?

From his view on the field no way he could see anything, it would literally be a best guess from far away and down below in real time. Then replays are inconclusive.

And I agree with others, its the goober in the white shirt (who does lean over the wall, but isn't the fan who Betts actually hit) that makes it look worse, especially in the still photos people are passing around as "proof"

I agree. Its a tough call to make regardless, especially at this point in the series and the importance of it.
Replay cameras have certainly changed the game the past few years.

I don't agree or disagree with the call. I can't say if he would or would have not robbed the potential homerun. I just wish it would have been left up to the players to make the plays.

That's on the replay officials in NYC, not on him. He's just listening on the headset to their decision.

Problem is that he wasn't in a good position to make the call either way. There's no way from his spot near the 1B line ballboy that he can tell for sure whether the fans were over the field or whether Mookie's glove was in the stands.

Every ballpark in the majors has areas where the fans can interfere with the players or the players can make plays in the stands, so get this stupid shite out of here.

Fenway comes to mind

It’s a circle jerk. Th MLB uses the on field call to avoid making any ballzy decision.

I think they had one, but security guards and fans blocked the view.

That may be true, but I don't think they had the views to reverse whatever call was made on the field. It was close and the Red Sox are lucky it went their way. Could have easily been called a home run and red Sox fans would be pissed right now. I would be upset as a stros fan too.

Based on the angle no way to overturn the call. Could have went either way.

Cry all you want, but giving up 8 runs in a postseason game usually doesn’t net you a win. There were eight more innings to win that game, it happened early. You have to move on with it. The call gets made, and the call is the call.

Astros were moving on pretty well, then came the phantom foul ball to Benintendi that kept his bat alive and led to more runs.

I’m an Astros fan.....but this is interference. Fans hands clearly over the fence in the field of play.

The views they had were a hell of a lot better than the view joe west had. The call on the field wording to me applies on throw outs at second or home where the ump is standing over the play and the view of the feet/tag are blocked from the camera. Here we have wide open views except for the one down the fence and FAR more conclusive than joe west’s view.

That’s kinda my point. We don’t need stubborn arse joe west effecting a call that there is no way that he could have known. Let it play out and send it to review, like more college refs do with fumbles.

Mlb umps like to Remind people they are there too much for that happen.

The guy in blue is who is in question, not the other two (who are leaning more forward, and orange guy is turned sideways and is borderline at best...only the fan in white reaches over the fence and he didn’t have a role in the play)

The guy in blue is standing up in place with arms in normal position to catch the ball in his chest.

Look where Orange and Blue are, and look at the below photo. They have the be actively leaning forward to break this black barrier. It’s an optical illusion, they aren’t standing right above the yellow line like it looks in the photos and even some of the video shots

ETA: to further prove the point, look how far fan in white is leaning his body forward just to get even with the yellow line. Blue and Orange aren’t leaning forward at all. Dude in the white shirt should have been kicked out and he’s the one that made the overall play look worse

He insists that he wasn't reaching over the field of play. Of course, I would too if I was him.

I'm not saying you are wrong, but in a lot of baseball situations, the call during the action determines what the next action will be. Hard to just let it play out without a call in a lot of situations. It might be workable though.

I just hate that it is a forgone conclusion that he makes that catch. It is not, therefore, he gets a single or a double.

Thank god we won the series last year, I am very salty today but I legit would crippled with houston sports defeat had that happened prior to getting over the hump.

I am curious to where that will land in the all time loses for Houston

Ones that come to mind:

Oilers bills
1997 game 6 West confrance finals
Last year’s game 7 of the West confrance finals
Lidge (won the series still but ruined him as a stro)

I am 28 so i am sure I am missing plenty
