Astros RHP Steve Cishek has requested and been granted his release from the Astros, the club said. He's a free agent.

@MarkBermanFox26
Carlos Correa on his contractual situation:”No updates. What was reported about the 6/$120(million), that was a couple of weeks ago. There was no conversation after that.We haven’t spoken about a possible extension since then.I’m preparing like I’m gonna be a free agent this year”

Crane is stepping up for the citay of Houston big time.

I will be furious if we don't resign Correa.

Please video tape your melt. We could use a good laugh after all we have been thru together.

I would prefer an animated recreation of the melt. I'd settle for puppets.

I've crunched the numbers and due to the pandemic our DAT puppetry budget is only enough for tube sock puppets.

Pretty clear now what's happening. Correas agent let the media know about the low ball offer. IF they were Inna reasonable range of respectful negotiations the agent wouldn't be giving out numbers to the media. The low ball is an embarrassment to crane and his tube sock puppet jiminy glick.

No coincidence that number came out immediately after Lance's figures were released. The good news (if there is some) is that they're leaking it and Correa is talking about free agency. There's at least some motivations part on Correa's part to get back to the table.

The only good reason to sign Correa before the season is if he’s giving a hometown discount
If they’re paying top dollar, might as well let that carrot dangle

Houston won't win a war in the open market. He's the youngest in a crowded field of FA SS. Maybe they feel like Pena is gonna be a star. If Correa hadn't been an idiot in 17 and got hurt on an idiotic baserunning decision he probably wins the MVP and already got his big extension before altuve

One thing about the Correa offer is I think they really like Jeremy Pena so they're not desperate to blow their wad on Correa with his injury history and inconsistent performance at the plate.
That said, I think they basically offered him Bogaerts as a low starting point while waiting out what the Mets are going to do with Lindor who will get the most out of the pending SS free agents. That strategy may not work out well if Lindor doesn't get signed in the next week though.
Offering 20M per year and then moving up to 25M with an out clause after year 2 or 3 perhaps ends up as the compromise before the season opener?

They can if they want to. However, I doubt we'd want them to.

This is true. His dumb injuries are the reason he hasn't been locked up yet.

The baserunning injury doesn’t bother me near as much as the massage injury

I’d like to re-sign him. But he’s yet to prove he can stay healthy for a full 162-game season. He was healthy last year in a 60-game season and his production in the regular season was modest. I’d also be concerned whether he would be motivated once he got paid, especially given how brittle he’s been.
So set your price, make your best final offer and if he doesn’t take it, let him walk. If someone else wants to give him insane money, let it be their problem.

If you really believe he got injured from a massage I can't help you.
