Scott Boras needed a feel good deal after getting his arse handed to him in free agency.
Stoked to see Tuve get paid and locked up! And what a deal for the club.

Also...Luhnow and especially Crane
he said he’d open up the check book once the rebuild was complete. Props for keeping his word thus far

Now focus on Correa next offseason
They should call him right now and offer to rip up his current pre-arb deal for a 10-year, $250 million contract. You'd offer him huge money and a ton of security to lock him up through his age 32 season.

You gotta be happy with this extension. Locking up Altuve for another 7 years at a reasonable 23.5mil per year. You’re paying the contract while in his prime to his age 34 season. This is a great start to locking up franchise players while in there prime.

I look forward to the DAT meetup in Cooperstown, NY in 2035

Basically gives us the option of Altuve being an Astro for life. He of course could be traded in the future but he's locked up through 34 if we want him.

Give Correa 350/10 next offseason and call it a day
ETA: will be interesting to see what Harper and Machado get, those will be the baselines I’m sure

JD Davis with a solo shot in the first

Maybe it’s me being a homer but isn’t 5/150 way under market value for tuve?

It’s undervalue in terms of years, for sure. But $30 million AAV is rare for the time being

My first thought after “this is awesome” was “yeah, pretty fair deal”
Posted on 3/16/18 at 6:07 pm to texastiger38
Yeah just surprised to see that the total after seeing numbers like 300 mill tossed out for Bryce Harper and machado etc

You have to incorporate the next 2 years when judging this extension. If Altuve plays the next 2 years and we don’t get a deal done, I’m willing to bet the club pays close to the current per for a longer contract. There’s also the chance he leaves. Locking Altuve up for the next 7 years up to his age 35 season is really good for the club. Not paying tons of money for backend career subpar numbers.
Hard to realistically hope for a better deal.

As I said last page, you're on the money.
It's really a 7-year, $163.5 million dollar contract. That's just $23.35 million per season on average through his age 34 season.
Good piece of business.

I’ve seen it mentioned on twitter, but this offseason may have officially broken free agency. No way Altuve signs of a bunch of FA signed huge contracts like in years past. IMO this bodes well for us down the road

Not to be forgotten, tKing also homers.

McCullers 4.1IP 1H 0R 1BB 5K
I also just noticed, Chuck Morton has only pitched twice for a total of 5IP so far this spring. I think he's scheduled to pitch tomorrow but it wouldn't be surprising if he's in some way hobbled.
