BREAKING: JON SINGLETON HAS BEEN PROMOTED FROM AAA OKLAHOMA CITY AND WILL BE IN UNIFORM TOMORROW VS THE ANGELS!!!!
Y'all Fricked!
Astros Record in May: 15-15
Series sweeps: Royals
Series wins: Rangers, White Sox
Series splits: Mariners, Orioles
Series losses: Mariners, Tigers, Orioles, Angels
Swept By: NONE
The Good:
1. GEORGE FRICKING SPRINGER! An absolute tear over an 18 game stretch with 10 homers. This guy has been the spark plug.
2. The Bullpen: a sub 2.00 ERA by the bullpen in the last 30 innings before yesterday's loss. Major kudos for rebounding. Qualls & Sipp were outstanding.
3. Dallas Keuchel: was there a hotter pitcher in the bigs in the month of May? He earns Co-MVP of May with Mr. Springer.
The Bad:
1. Offensive production: Not terrible, considering we've won 15 games in May, but most of those were thanks to outstanding pitching performances. A lot of 2-1 scores that we just managed to hang on. There's a lot of gaping holes still in the lineup. I suspect we'll see some of that get fixed once Singleton arrives. However, bright spots were Altuve and Springer...with an honorable mention to Marwin Gonzales.
The Ugly:
1. Chris freaking Carter. While he managed to slug a few homers, he still K's more than anyone could possibly imagine.
2. Jason Castro: If we are to continue to improve, he's going to have to rebound. He's putting up Carter like K numbers.
3. Comcast: for the love of all things sacred, please get a deal done.

Things are beginning to look up for the Astros. With the emergence of Springer and our pitching doing a good job thing don't look like all doom and gloom. I will say we do need to get a few more bats in the lineup that have some pop. We need to get a 1st baseman and a left fielder that can bring something to the table and for dear god get rid of Chris "K Machine" Carter.
BTW we need the CSNH deal to get done onw. A little more interest is being shown by the fans because of the past month we have had. Problem is most can't watch the games and the casual fan that would jump back on the Astros wagon have the mentality "No TV, No care" Only the diehards like us will go and stream the games from 3rd party sites. With the young talent this team has, if we can get a TV in place I think we could get interest in the club again.

Per @JeffPassan, the #Astros have signed Jon Singleton to a 5-year, $10M guaranteed deal. 3 club options could push it to $35M over 8.

It's time for Carter to see the bench now!!
What's interesting to me though is that they signed Singleton to this pretty big deal before he even takes one at bat in the bigs. Not necessarily complaining about that, just think its interesting.

Yahoo!Sports is also reporting that Singleton, who will be 23 in September, has agreed on a long-term deal with $10 million guaranteed. Yahoo says the contract is for five guaranteed seasons and three option years. If the Astros pick up all his options, he would not be a free agent until age 30.

Could end up being the biggest steal in baseball if he produces. Hell, $2 million/yr. for .280 and 15 homers is a steal these days and I don't think there's any doubt he'll provide that.

Who goes down? Krauss or Guzman?

Right. That's what I think is interesting about it. If he pans out as we expect then it is genius and they are getting a bargain on him.
It's a nice little gamble that has great upside.
