We also have the best 4X100 relay team. And though it may sound ridiculous, don't be surprised if an American wins the marathon. Ryan Hall is an absolute distance running beast, and I think he can easily place in the top 3. Also, Anthony Famiglietti, a 3000 M steeplechaser also has a good chance of winning his event.

i like famiglietti as much as the next guy and i really cheer on any U.S. athletes, but he stands absolute no chance in the final. hes not even gonna medal, much less win.

ryan hall could possibly medal, ill give you that. althought it wont be easy.

4x100 all depends on exchanges. should be close.

famiglietti's biggest problem is he just doesnt have the staying power to run out front from the very start. i hope he does well, cause he holds nothing back from the very start

that and the fact that like 11 guys in the final have PRs faster than him.

His time in the semis was less than a second slower than the fastest time run.

As does every relay in the Olympics. But we enter with the fastest time.

Nevermind. It's gonna be a long shot for him. I just got excited when I saw him in the semis.

he does have an exciting style. just dont think its gonna translate well in a championship race, esp one that the kenyans have historically dominated at the olympics.

would love to see ryan hall steal a medal though, as well as ritzenhein.

Disagree. If Gay were 100%, I might call them equal, but Jamaica has the WR holder, the former WR holder and an Olympic 100 finalist. We're pretty fricked.

I posted this the other day. Normally, I would count any (non-tansplanted) American runner out, but Hall is better than we have had in the past. Also, as the women's race proved, those who are used to the home conditions and terrain do well. Well, the "terrain" is pretty flat, so that's out, but the air quality is, I believe, a factor, and Hall being from the L.A. area might help him. We'll see.

Since obviously no one other than me keeps up with the boxing, the US Boxing team's Deontay Wilder became the only medalist for the team, advancing to the semifinals.

quote:

Thanks to heavyweight Deontay Wilder's victory on punch statistics in a bout that finished in a 10-all tie with Morocco's Mohammed Arjaoui, the U.S. won't leave an Olympics empty-handed for the first time - but Wilder's single medal is the lowest total in team history.

"I don't want the world to remember Team USA as being failures," Wilder said.

Demetrius Andrade, the reigning world champion, was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Kim Jungjoo of South Korea. He was one of the last two (along with Wilder) remaining for the US, in contention for a medal.

US gymnist got screwed out of a gold by a 13 year old Chinese one

LINK

I'd say that is a pretty dumbass rule, but what else would you expect in gymnastics.

US represented in the hurdles. And got a gold in the discus.

Men's basketball owned Germany big time. They seem to be getting better as they go.

Do we have any chance at overtaking china in the gold medal race? I think they have 16 more than us right now.
