What did Oscar say?

"If I've got a guy who's great shooting the ball outside, don't you want to extend your defense out a little bit?" the 77-year-old Big O said Thursday during a phone interview on ESPN's Mike & Mike show. "I just don't think coaches today in basketball understand the game of basketball. They don't know anything about defenses. They don't know what people are doing on the court. They talk about analytical basketball and stuff like that."

"They double-teamed me an awful lot during my career," said Robertson, who in 1960-61 became the first and only player in league history to average a triple double. "I look at games today, and they'll start a defense at the foul line. When I played, they were picking you up when you got the ball inbounds. So it's a different strategy about playing defense."

Robertson acknowledged Curry's greatness, but took another shot at today's game when he was asked by Mike & Mike co-host Mike Greenberg if he's ever seen a better shooter.

"He's shot well because of what's going on in basketball today," Robertson said. "In basketball today, it's almost like if you can dunk or make a three-point shot, you're the greatest thing since sliced bread.

"There have been some great shooters in the past. ... But here again, when I played years ago, if you shot a shot outside and hit it, the next time I'm going to be up on top of you. I'm going to pressure you with three-quarters, half-court defense. But now they don't do that. These coaches do not understand the game of basketball, as far as I'm concerned."

These last two years are the best any player has played in the NBA. If Curry can maintain this for 8-10 more years, he is the GOAT. He is changing basketball

Curry shot 6-8 from FT, 75%

Curry shot 12-16 from 3pt, 75%

Curry shot 2/8 from within 3pt, 25%

So...yeah

The crazy thing about Steph is that he goes off like this more often than not. Maybe not to the extent of tonight, but still goes off in an absurd way.

I get that a player can sometimes go unconscious where they are making anything they throw at the rim. But Curry pretty much goes unconscious every game. It's ridiculous.

That's literally the best way to describe it

Great players get in that zone every now and then. Curry lives in that zone.

Really is magical to watch.

Bird was an awesome shooter but steph is just plain better. Face it folks. We are seeing history in the making. And the dude makes it look easy.

You can see preemptive surrender cobras in the crowd before the ball went in. There was no point in even considering the remote possibility of him missing that shot.

I mean, when a the man can cross the halfcourt stripe and immediately load up, and you KNOW it's wet.....I mean, what can you say?

Curry has more made threes in the last three years than Bird made in his entire career.

Yup. Bird was way more than a shooter though. If I needed one shot to go in at the end of the game I take steph and then bird. A lot of people under appreciate just how great bird was though.

Absolutely nothing

He can be off balanced, falling away from the rim, with a 6'8 defender in his face and you know it's wet.

Most of the shots that he takes would be HORRIBLE shots for everyone else in the league. Shots where you go "WTF". But not for Curry. And he consistently drills them.

Just sit back and enjoy watching this because it's incredible.

OK, OK, OK. This is a real stat: Stephen Curry has more 3s in his last two games (22) than most players in the NBA this entire season

Agree on curry and his shooting. I have watched basketball for over 45 years and I have never seen anything like what he is doing.
