Does soccer count because then it's obviously Messi.

Yup. He's pretty much the GOAT already.

You don't have to agree with my list, it is just for the sake of conversation, but c'mon at least put in a little effort

Now that's a good looking list. Needs Brady and manning on it though

Bolt is not as clear cut as you may think. He has faster times but that isn't necessarily the best way to compare athletes from different eras. Look at Bolt's olympic medals:
2 100 gold
2 200 gold
2 4x100 gold
and compare it to a guy like Carl Lewis:
2 100 gold
1 200 gold
1 200 silver
2 4x100 gold
4 long jump gold

Yeah track is timed.

GOAT isn't really up for debate. Clock moves same speed regardless of era or competition.

Most of Pele's legend is World Cup based. It's hard to say just how great he was when he never played for a European club. During his heyday, Garrincha was considered just as key for Brazil, but he's largely been forgotten by time.

As crazy as it sounds, Messi being able to work with Neymar, and then being able to slide over for Suarez has bolstered him for me. I used to always wonder if he was just the product of Barca's ridiculous midfield.

I don't like the list.

Trout of the ones we can pick from.

He's young and already great.

Brady is a real possibility. If the Patriots win two more in a row, you have to consider him. The Patriots have a lot of high draft picks coming up. Replace the DT. Add another shifty slot WR/KR. One more RB. They can reload with just the 5 high picks they have and Belichek will pick up the D-II special teams player of the year & the D-III defensive player of the year with those 6's and7's.

very nice, if out of the box. he didn't include soccer or tennis or track or golf.

it looks like McIlroy has his head back on and has learned his new sponsor's clubs.

We are about to see if LeBron can be the man.
They picked up some big Euro man to replace the oft injured Brazilian.
Too bad they do not seed the entire NBA playoffs as one long list.
Bron Bron would have to wade past Curry/Thompson/Green - Tim/Parker/Ginobli, the thug Gasol/Randolph and a healed up C.Lee. I would bet he would not get to the finals if he had to beat those three to make it.

So better track, shoe and clothing technology has no effect on time? This argument is hardly made by anyone who follows track and field because records fall frequently and you can be certain that Bolt's record will be broken soon enough. Performance at the highest stage is a much better indicator of an athletes' true ability, and Lewis is ahead of Bolt in that category. I'm not saying Bolt won't get there or even that there shouldn't be a discussion, but just because he holds the 100m world record shouldn't just make him the best sprinter of all time. Lewis twice lowered the 100m world record in his prime. Not to mention Lewis added long jumping to the equation, making his marks all the more impressive.

I suppose by your logic that Jesse Owens is a worse sprinter than Trindon Holliday?

LeBron has the best chance but I am not sure he has the balls to take that title
