I believe Happ was a higher rated prospect than Jimenez to begin with.

The Sox system is getting stacked. They now have 7 of the top 100 prospects in Baseball America's midseason list. I'm not sure what their depth is like past that but they have probably surpassed the Braves minor league system and now have 2 of the top 5 prospects.

Braves have 7 in KLaws top 50 braj

Jimenez was 1
Happ was 2

After 2016 season per Baseball America.

So not too much separation

Quintana is going to pitch his a$$ off for the Cubs. He's back in form after a slow start.
Looking at comps, Sonny Gray has never had a single year as good as Q's best 3; Cole has had 1.
The prospect bite is heavy, but they're also in the low minors and a few years away. Yea, Jimenez was higher ranked than Happ - but it is Happ who is major league ready and this is the Cubs window.
3+ years of control.
Win-win trade.

He has been pretty solid ad consistent the last few ears. But he is having a very meh year- especially to give up a guy like Jimenez AND cease for him.

Ok, so this till give Chicago 1 good pitcher, and still no extra bats. This move wont win the division as it stands.

Quintana will make ~10m a year each of the next 3 years. Obviously we'd still need to fill a rotation spot but thats $21m in surplus funds for.....Harper?

As a player it must be pretty awesome to get traded and not have to pick up and move everything... but wow didn't even think about the Cubs being players for Quintana

Kind of off topic, but when guys like Arrieta say there will be no home team discount, does it go without saying that there will also be no home team bonus?

Addresses a glaring problem for the Cubs, so good move. I'm assuming the corresponding move to make room for Quintana is optioning Eddie Butler? Maybe they have to wave him to get Quintana on the 40 man? Anyone know? TIA.

I think the 40 man was only at 38 so I don't think they'll need to move anybody. My immediate thought was to option floro and send montgomery back to the pen. That would give you another lefty in the pen and a long reliever.
