I'm beginning to think that the James' family blew this way out of proportion b/c their son didn't get his way

I think the truth lies somewhere between what the two of them are saying.
That said, Leach got shafted by an AD looking for an excuse to do so.

Considering the James' family hired a PR firm before alerting the university, then once their name was out in the national media Craig announced he wants to run for the senate, I'll let you figure it out.

I think James blew it way out of porportion. The fact his dad recorded a statement for ESPN to aire during a game was a good sign of that. I thought that was poor taste on ESPN to do that because since then all you hear is ESPN announcers take James side when they bring it up. News coverage is not suppose to take sides bit ESPN appears to do so in their coverage.

Agreed.
But I will add that Leach was a total arse to the administration and the school for quite some time, essentially burning all of his bridges. As soon as a scandal happened, all of those enemies he created over his tenure came back to stab him in the back. He did make his bed in Lubbock. He's guilty of being an a-hole and it came back to bite him.
But Adam Jones is a punk.
