What's your point? Is your point that Bill Russell is the GOAT?

Nah

I crunched the numbers a year ago

It game out, that on average, jordans opponents on the way to the finals had an average record of 50-32, and Lebrons was 49-33
Don't care, will ignore or bang my fist on the table and say THEY WERE STILL MUCH TOUGHER!!!

fwiw, that doesn't really "debunk" the argument they're trying to make.

A certain someone once used HOF caliber players to determine the toughness of the East.

That doesn't debunk the argument of the gauntlet that MJ had to go through compared to how easy the East is so we lessen the 7 in a row for Lebron argument?

Say what?

It strengthens the argument in that the East was deeper then and wasn't just a top heavy conference like it has been for years and years once the West took over.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned how bad the East has been since Lebron came into the league. Remember, the West was not the dominant conference it has perennially been back when Jordan was around. Lebron and his slew of stars would have had a tough time with how much more physical the game was back then

That's one way of looking at it. Another way of looking at it is why doesn't anyone go to the East to challenge Lebron?

What significant star has gone from the West to the East?

no, that specific data woes not. You're smart enough to realize that.

This is about MJ and LeBron, no one else. The fact that MJ never lost a Finals in 6 tries and likely didn't play in 8 consecutive only because of personal tragedy and his employer telling him to take some time off absolutely has weight on the GOAT individual basketball player argument.

I mean, had MJ been able to play GM and get a team together with Barkley and Hakeem or similar superstars, do you think they would have lost any Finals? LOLOLOL no.

Of all the stupid shite in this thread from both sides of the argument, this one takes the cake.

Explain to me how Jordan, the 3rd option on his COLLEGE team, the 3rd leading scorer on his team in COLLEGE, who averaged 13--4---2 against COLLEGE competition, was ready for the NBA

Just admit you were uneducated, and bought into the Jordan unicorn stories

ETA: also, you think this takes the cake over someone saying Russel only succeeded because he didn't play against blacks? And another guy comparing the 1980 lakers to the 2004 cavs?

if so, that only stands to prove that the East in Lebron's 7 year run was also about as tough, so there ya go.

Who do you think is the GOAT, MJ or Russell?

That's my takeaway from that as well Shel, he's USING A ONE GAME DIFFERENCE to make a definitive point?! What's he think we were all born yesterday?

If LeBron got to play against those Portland, Phoenix, Seattle, and Utah teams he'd have significantly more rings.

Scottie Pippen also has TWO 3-peats, Dennis Rodman has a repeat AND a 3-peat with TWO SEPARATE FRANCHISES so what's that supposed to mean?

Maybe he'd have more against those teams but certainly not as many against the Bulls.

At this point a poll taken from players and coaches spanning multiple generations casting their vote on this would provide some needed expert analysis beyond number crunchers and casual biased fans. I think some of you would be surprised at the outcome.

1. Players are often shitty at this type of analysis based on their biases.

2. The old players will see more MJ picks. The new/current players will see a higher % of Lebron picks, because of...see #1 above.
