Corollary to "Voucher athletes ineligible" thread: FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Does anyone realize what is going to happen to football recruiting in the next 5-10 years?
A lot of these public school kids are going to switch to very small private schools, parochial schools, and "storefront" schools established solely to milk the voucher system of every dollar they can to enrich its owners.
These schools will have no legitimate or viable football teams. Therefore, the next Kevin Faulk or Rueben Randle will have NEVER PLAYED football because there was no real opportunity to do so.
If this voucher thing sticks around, I predict dreadful recruiting classes for LSU and other schools starting in about 5 years. Welcome back 1990s!!!
I despise this voucher system for many other reasons besides this, but this is just another reason to hate the voucher system.

Posted on 8/9/12 at 5:39 pm to LuckySo-n-So
so you gotta be po' to be a good athlete?
Posted on 8/9/12 at 5:41 pm to LuckySo-n-So
yea but dont you only get a voucher if your smarter than most in your class. Athletes dont usually fall into that category

Didn't say that.
I'm saying that A LOT of future football recruits will be funneled out of athletics because the schools they will go to will not have decent athletic programs.

If the kid is a great athlete, he will play well at any level; probably better at a smaller school.
He will get invited to camps, get evaluated by the coaching staff, and get offered if he is worthy; just like if he was at a bigger school.

That, I don't know.
From various reports, approximately 75% of public school students in LA will be eligible for vouchers due to the fact that they go to schools rated "C" or lower. Of course, it will be years before that many spots are offered, but theoretically, A LOT of students will transfer to private schools--and we all know they are not going to go to Newman, Evangel, John Curtis, or Catholic.

On field performance doesn't matter. It just matters how you do in shorts and a T. Camps are all that matter now anyway.

U don't think small schools that get an influx of students would start athletics programs if they don't have them already?
Posted on 8/9/12 at 8:05 pm to LuckySo-n-So
Won't happen. Dumb thread.

Students that display exceptional athletic skills are not going to voucher into a school that doesn't offer their sport.

The problem will be fixed...next year, I'd bet. Bad scar,ew up this year, however...bad, bad screw up.

Whether you are pro or con on the vouchers, it was literally rammed down the legislature's throats by Bobby. He was in too much of a hurry to get this on his resume for the fall's election & obviously gave little thought to all the possible future ramifications, h.school sports never even entering the picture, obviously. But at least any future athletes will learn that the science of evolution is a hoax according to these new schools.

recruiting been going on for years at private schools. the voucher system makes it easier in the private schools wallet because they wont be taking funds out their bank account to pay for the students.
jindal is paying for them now

incorrect unless certain schools know who they're getting before the state assigns them

You don't get to pick your students with the voucher system.

No, but you think recruiting will end because of vouchers? It's just another tool and yes private school will be in the ear of certain kids that can use their voucher to move schools. The LHSAA is going to have an all out war in January.

Any system can be manipulated, but this system will be very difficult to tinker with. I know, because my kids' school had a few slots and looked into getting a faculty member's child into school on the voucher system. There was no way it could be done.
In our limited slots, we had dozens of applicants and no way to be involved on who we actually got. The state told the school who our students would be.
