Trust you? I am an alumni. I lived through it for four years and have seen my brother go through it for four.

The school's expectations, at times, are atrocious, IMO. Students completely miss out of the "high school experience" because the school always expects them to walk the line--and if they dare misstep, the punishment is severe.

Maybe so. They should have shut that siren noise down though. That was awful and made the school look like a bunch of annoying pricks. Your bro agreed with me.

Yeah, me too.

Also had a brother go through it for four years.

I'd love some examples.

Sure, they're tough on you, but I would never go so far as to label them atrocious. In fact, they basically require to be responsible for yourself and face the consequences of the your actions. The rules are laid out from day one and you know what lines to cross and not to cross.

It's kind of like being treated like an adult.

That's what I loved about the school. Hated it when I was there, but in hindsight I love it. Nothing screams white trash like a 17 year old dropping f bombs at a high school sporting event. Hopefully the kids will all be given Saturday school for a month to learn a lesson.

I agree that dropping f bombs is out of line. However, I have no problems with students cheering/yelling/heckling in a tactful manner. Joking with the third baseman about him being the star player's younger brother or making comments about them playing in the Little League World Series--those are completely harmless. When you stop students, who were having a great time, from having harmless fun, I find that to be unacceptable.

That's difference.

Is it annoying? Absolutely, but that's what's intended. But it isn't bad sportsmenship. Now, harassing individual players has never been tolerated.

We used to throw a boot attached to a rope in right field when opposing players made an error and the school never said a word (although a few umpires did.)

The Junebug chants were even worse. I'm assuming that was the pitcher's nickname, but I found it annoying.

They really weren't that bad about that this year. At home games, there was a set of bleachers behind right field where people would look up the right fielder's name on facebook and yell all kinds of personal shite. Not really too much restriction.

I doubt any of them get in trouble for it, but I can tell you the administration will shut it down when it is constantly directed at one player. Not because anything was truly harmful, but to stop something harassing before it starts.

Coaches middle schoolers at Zachary now.

ETA: Or so I hear, from some legitimate sources.

One poster mentioned being suspended for "not paying attention at church." Suspension is something pretty serious so I would be interested in the details.

The first week of school, the disciplinarian being absurd about hair length. When I was a sophomore, I went through once, Hanks said to get it cut...so the President of the student body cut it, went back to Hanks and he said cut it again....I then had Mrs. Harvey, the Vice Principal cut my hair, went back...Hanks said it still wasn't alright. That sort of obsession is par for the course of four years.

Wearing white socks with pants. Like that really matters.

Wearing ankle socks at PE. Nope. Those are inappropriate, they have to be mid calf.

Not being able to show up to school in PE clothes if you have PE 1st period. Only to have to change and waste 10 minutes.

It is little things like these that are just not necessary. I'm sure I can think of quite a lot more, but it has been a few years since I graduated.

I only got to go to the state championship game. The kids I am talking about are the juniors that were down the 3rd base line. They had looked up names and other bits of information. But, Barry and Kelly put a stop to it before the end of the first inning.

They won't get in trouble because they were forced to stop. How do they know they are going to get out of line? Once they do, then you make them stop. Not before.

Sounds like Hanks is the problem. Is he still disciplinarian?

I had Cafferal for three years. He wasn't bad at all. We could do all of the above.

I had Lamy for a couple years and then Hanks for a couple. they were both pretty damn strict.

Cafferal wasn't nearly as bad as either of those from what I have been told.

Kelly....I can only imagine he is worse than all of them.

He called everyone in your family?

Like I said, CHS pushes its discipline to levels that are not necessary for good natured kids. I am sure other recent CHS students have story after story about CHS overreacting.

I had Brando and Cafferal and they were extremely fair in my opinion.

Is Eldringhoff still terrible?

Brando was impossible to replace. He was about as well respected of a leader as I have ever met, in any field. Brother Barry has done well, just won't reach Brando level.

I'm really glad I never had him for class. I don't even know if he knows my name.

Someone else will have to speak about him.
