Exactly, the administration is so concerned with keeping up the "image of a catholic high student" that they won't let anyone do anything that would go slightly out of line with that.

I understand the dress code, the alcohol/drug policy, clean shaven, dress shoes, short hair thing. I also agree with the expectations on the academic side. But, the social expectations of their students are atrocious.

Unfortunately knowing the background makes it no less gay.

I don't really disagree with you. But, I don't really have a problem with them cheering, even if the chant is a little odd.

Finally, CHS wins state in one of the "big three" (baseball/basketball/football). And only a week before I graduate.

Yeah thats right. He has been good for the school from everything I have heard. Brother Francis was top notch and a tough person to replace.

Brother Barry has done a pretty good job, but he is not on Brando's level.

Catholic's student section chants were gay as frick as well. That OOOO thing they did whenever they were up to bat was one of the most stupid/annoying thing I think I've ever heard.

I was there and I agree. I along with others was tired of it after like 1 inning of it. It was a bunch of douchebag sophomores.

ETA: The only reason they continued, though, was because it clearly pissed y'all off.

That's what I loved about the school. Hated it when I was there, but in hindsight I love it. Nothing screams white trash like a 17 year old dropping f bombs at a high school sporting event. Hopefully the kids will all be given Saturday school for a month to learn a lesson.
You can bet your arse that Brother Barry was taking names for students to be called in on Monday after lunch.

GO BEARS!

I know that when I went to Catholic, they threatened to not let some of us walk across stage at graduation. We pushed them to the limit our last month as seniors as these kids were probably doing.

My brother explained it to me. Evidently it is related to a siren that goes off next to campus. The students would make that sound in class and it pissed off a lot of teachers. So I guess it became a cheer?

Every 1st Wednesday of the month around 9:00 a.m.

What subject do you teach?

Don't. I'm a former student.

The Emergency System Sirens for the section of Baton Rouge are right next to the school. They test them every 1st Wednesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. (time could be wrong, it's been a little while since my high school days)

Anyway, it's an obnoxious howl whose pitch rises as it goes along. The test last for an entire minute and, needless to say, it's super-distracting for the teacher. Naturally, teenage boys use every opportunity to not pay attention.

We would start making the sound with the sirens and then keep going for two or three minutes after the test ended until the teacher almost lost it.

Since you don't have to open your mouth to do it, the teacher could never figure out who was doing it so long as a bunch people did it at once.
