Which game do you think requires more preparation?

Which one is more intense on the field?

Which would a high school football player rather win?

College player?

NFL player?

Very long discussion at work this morning and I wanted to get the MSB thoughts.

Regular season game, without a doubt

it's men as opposed to boys

Dudes are all paid at least $40k to be there and some of them are getting $2 mil to be there

It's one thing to say you've won a college title but it's another to say you were in the league

We're y'all really discussing the merits of winning a title vs a game with potentially 2 6-8 teams that no one outside the local markets would care about?

A lot of the NFL sleepwalk through practices during the season if they do much at all

Preparation for a regular season game is not all that much

Preparation for who? The players, the venue, the coaches? I think media obligations make it the national championship game.

The National Championship game. In pro sports, players readily admit to not going very hard in the regular season.

I think most would rather make it to the NFL.

Look at the size of SEC players vs NFL players. It’s a negligible difference. The gap between NFL vs college is skill and scheme - not physique.

With training methods today, most guys have already maxed out their athleticism by the combine. It’s not like guys hit a growth spurt at 23.

Some of y’all act like BYU ought to blow through CFB every year.

In reality every pro game is more important than college… a Natty doesn’t mean as much to the players as it means to us…

Those 2 teams would curb stomp any college national champion ever.

It makes the point that a NFL regular season game means more.

Offensive line, for example, the SEC average is 6’5” 319 lbs vs the NFL average of 6’5” 314 lbs.

Any NFL line would handle any SEC line, but it’s because of footwork, quickness off the ball, hand placement, etc. Not because they’re “grown arse men”

From a purely athletic standpoint, most world class athletes peak in their very early twenties or even late teens. We see sub 20-year old gold medalists fairly often.

Tyreek Hill ran a 4.29 40 at the combine. Do you think now because he’s a “grown man” he runs a 4.19 40? There isn’t much room for athletic improvement by the time most players finish college.

Depends who you play but I’m guessing there’s so much complexity in NFL schemes that it’s probably the NFL.

College football natty. You’re playing for all the marbles. For a regular NFL Sunday, it’s work for those guys.

Probably the championship since they are more passionate and will be committing to a college. But they are already making millions if they play in an NFL game so I guess it could be either.

College player?
Obviously the championship they are playing for.

NFL player?
This I’m not sure. If you went in an NFL locker room and asked the players if they would trade a regular season loss for a championship in college, I bet a lot would say championship because you only get 1 shot (more if you went to Bama I guess) while you play 17 regular season games a year.

I think when a player retires and looks back on their career, a college championship would mean more to them than a regular season NFL game.

Seeing several Georgia players crying on the sidelines last year makes me doubt this

No they don't. You lose your fricking job. There's no scholarships in the NFL where you can suck week after week and stay on the roster.

Bill Parcels cut a guy because he fumbled twice in a game.

There's a fine line between being in the league and staying in the league. 100 guys waiting to take your spot.

College guys don't have to worry about being booted out of school because they fumbled.

If you don't go hard every snap in the NFL someone is right behind you to take your spot. You have to be an otherworldly talent like Randy Moss to take plays off and still be on the team.

There are tons of former players that build an entire career and life off of being a national championship player in college.

You can lose more than half your regular season games and still make the playoffs

Teams that have already gotten seeding straight up sit players for multiple games even at the end of the season

Don't even need to bring up the totally not tanking tanking

Regular season games are not even attempted to be won in the NFL, often

And a lot of college players never get to play in an NFL regular season game

That’s a stretch. Even when teams have secured a playoff bye and bench some starters, the players on the field want to win.

You might like it more if the NFL were able to pad their record playing teams from the USFL or XFL. Paying them to come to your house and crush them 73-3.

There are no Western Alabamas in the NFL.
