This article had me thinking about coaches that have left college and gone to mlb. I know some assistants that have left mlb and coached collegiately.
I couldn’t think of any.

The Twins hired Arkansas' pitching coach a couple years ago. Don't think a manager has ever recently been hired from college to MLB for the same role

Pitching coach Wes Johnson from Arkansas went to the Twins

Pat Murphy was head coach at Arizona St, was briefly the interim manager for the Padres and is now a bench coach with the Brewers

I guess I was thinking of head coaches that have left college to go as a mlb head coach. Maybe the team or owner would like to see them with mlb coaching experience?

Dick Hoswer from FSU to the Yankess in the 70s is the only one

I’ve known of a few college coaches that have been hired by MLB organizations, but they went into scouting, player development, or coaching in the minors.

This was a surprise. I know the thinking was that college coaches ruin arms and overpitch their pitchers and can't coach a pitcher due to aluminum bats.

Wrong. Bobby Winkles coached Arizona State from ‘59 to ‘71, then managed the Angels and Athletics later in the decade.

Eddie Stanky managed in the majors for a number of years before becoming coach of University of South Alabama. He left the USA job to become manager of the Texas Rangers, won the first game he managed, but then resigned to return to USA.
