I think Peterson is probably a better coach than Meyer.

People have to remember a couple things about Meyer:
He went undefeated at Utah but that's about the same as being undefeated at Boise St.

Bernie Machen was the president at Utah when Meyer got there and knew Meyer was going to raise the level of play for football.

Machen then left to take the same position at UF. When Zook was stumbling, Machen told Foley that Meyer was the only target.

Meyer was brought to UF and success at UF is far more impactful than success at Utah. And that is why Meyer is so highly thought of and Peterson is a distance behind him. But Peterson is probably a better coach and much more stable.

Machen also said that Meyer would not last in coaching more than a decade because he's a stress monger. Meyer went 6 years at UF, 2 at Utah, 2 at BGSU. He flamed out in 9 years and spent 2010 at UF heavily medicated, walking around like a zombie and Addazio ran the program that year. Truthfully, Meyer was only locked in for 8 years. He wilted under the pressure following the 08 title.

If Harbaugh stays at Michigan much longer, I don't know if Meyer will be able to take it. If Harbaugh leaves and Meyer has the Big10 to himself he may stick around up there.

Another good indicator of Meyer's inability to handle stress is the 09 team that returned EVERYONE on defense, from an 08 defense that shut down the most prolific offense in CFB history (OU) in the title game. Also returned Tebow and had a stacked Oline with the Pouncey twins etc. On paper that 09 team should have gone undefeated and won the title and Tebow should have left UF with two Heismans. But Meyer did a shite job in 09. That team played down to the competition all year and then got starched by Bama.

There was an anonymous survey of SEC coaches, asking the difference between Bama and UF in 09. Kiffin was at UT in 09. You could tell from the wording it was Kiffin's comment, and the fact that Kiffin played both teams. He said it plainly: UF acted like they could roll the helmets out there and everyone would just cave in, but UF played without discipline, was poorly coached, and overall was a sloppy team, despite more talent by a wide margin than anyone else in the nation. He said Bama was legit in every way. Even with that shitshow of a team Kiffin had, he kept games very, very tight. And he only lost to Bama by 2 points. He did a very good job against both teams and matched up better against Bama. On paper UF should have beaten UT by 30 at least. But UF played down and won by 10.

Meyer could not handle the stress of being the defending champs, stacked defense, Tebow, stacked Oline etc. The expectations were too high. When it counted the most, he performed the worst and UF got blown out by Bama. Texas didn't have a prayer against either team.

tldr: Peterson > Meyer
Saban > Peterson but Bama better be locked in or they'll get beat.

I believe him turning down programs like USC has something to do with a son who has some health issues. Was reason he was at Boise so long because of hospital there and agreed to Washington because the hospital there was one of the few that was better than help he got at Boise (or something like that if I recall). Think it's more about him being family first than just "certain type program guy" or "not big program guy". What's best for his family is reason he goes where he goes, which is refreshing from how some can be these days.

UW sucks.

PAC has been showing how bad it is.

USC was the lone good team in the conference.

Frick UW and their Boise State schedule for giving Bama a bye. You are in the big boy conference now Peterson, time to take off the diapers. Stop scheduling, Portland St., Idaho, Kalamazoo, Kwanzaa St., Hamburger University and the Devry Institute.

Do they?

I think that Peterson will have a good game plan for us. He has won a lot of big games as an underdog so this is nothing new for him. No one giving them a chance makes me think that they will come fired up and ready to play. I think we will be ready to, but this win won't come easy IMO.

Big difference is that Meyer beat Saban with loaded teams. 2014 Ohio State had five future first round picks. They also had other players like Michael Thomas and Vonn Bell who weren't first round picks but have turned out to be excellent pros. And 2008 Florida was so loaded that they had Cam Newton as their backup QB. The only time you can really say that Saban shite the bed in a big game against inferior talent was Auburn in 2013. All of the other teams that have beaten Saban in big games were extremely talented.

Don't be that guy.

UW doesn't have the athletes. It's that simple.

Do most on this board pay not even a little bit attention to the PAC-12?

Cliches, and Boise and Peterson?

Jesus Christ, USC dominated UW in the trenches...Every play was almost a QB sack. UW couldn't run basic plays against USC. They were running for their lives.

And USC can't hang with Bama.

This game, Bama is so much more physical they will turtle their gameplan and just sit on UW and take a dump in their backs owning the T Of P.

27-0 and it will feel like 124-0.

Perfect example if wash wants to beat Bama you need foster sarell to commit but I am guessing he will end up at USC

I read this over and over and it's one of those things that's been said so many times that people assume it's true. His son has been fine for a while now. He was sick when he was younger, but not anymore. After meeting with the USC AD Pat Haden, it was more of a mutual decision that it wasn't a good fit. When the UW job came open, that was the one Petersen was waiting for. He contacted the UW AD about the opening and was named the head coach a few days later.

i think that if UW can keep it a defensive struggle Bama may press and make a mistake late.

Dave Aranda and Pete Kwiatkowski (UW DC) are really good friends and run a very similar defense. They bounce ideas off of each other during the offseason. I'm sure Kwiatkowski talked with Aranda and UW will have a similar defensive game plan as LSU did against Alabama. UW has the DTs and DBs, but is weak at DE and LB due to a couple of key injuries. The only shot UW has is to win the turnover battle and keep it a low scoring game.
