Atlanta would be fricked. Howard is a cancer and he will never win anything.
i agree howard is a shitty teammate and possible cancer and i do not like the guy but he did take a team full of hodors to the nba finals

It wasn't stacked.

That team was made up of shooters who could hit the 3, which was perfect for Howard.

3) Trade Al Horford to the Pelicans for #6 and Jason Smith.

It works as long as the shooters are hitting. When they aren't, you get shite-shows like the game where the lowly Hornets held them to about 55 points.

Well that would be really convenient for the Pelicans.

No doubt, but Atlanta has a dilemma in this scenario in that it needs good players on small deals. Maybe they could get Chandler Parsons for Horford?

I don't think Houston moves Parsons for anybody right now, he's too cheap.

If Cleveland is really interested in moving the #1 pick + assets for Aldridge then they would be a nice landing spot for Horford in this scenario. If I was Ferry I'd be doing everything I could to convince Dwight that he should want to play with Horford and not Smith though.

It doesn't matter what you want, or even what Danny Ferry wants, it matters what Dwight and CP3 want.

I'm not so sure Dwight and CP3 wouldn't want Horford over Josh. I know Josh and Dwight are tight, but Dwight knows Josh has his shortcomings. and Horford's deal (12 mil per IIRC) would make it easier to give the other 2 more money/ fill out the roster.

Idea is that Atlanta would need to dump the last of the salaries on their roster for a trade exception, draft picks, and/or players with low salaries or non-guaranteed salaries.

The only teams able to take on Horford's $12m without much issue are Philly, the Clip Show, Houston, Dallas, Minnesota, Cleveland, Detroit, Utah, New Orleans, and Milwaukee.

Cleveland, New Orleans, and Milwaukee are the three teams which can absorb the salary, send something back, and are NOT in the hunt for CP3 or Howard, as Philly has traded their future 1sts, Minny getting Horford means they lose Pekovic as an RFA, Detroit and Utah are already stacked with bigs, etc.

Pretty sure Atlanta wouldn't want the #1 pick.

$4.5-$5m is a lot to pay for a guy who won't really be contributing.

Yeah, in my scenario I traded down from 6 to 9 just to go from $2.5M to $2M. They can't afford #1.

Hell, to get Dwight, CP and Smith, they might want a multi-team deal where the only thing they get back are future picks, not even players this year.

Yeah, future 1sts and a gigantic Traded Player Exception for Horford would probably be the way to go if they want a CP3-D12-Smith lineup.

Put those three, Lou Williams, and John Jenkins together and you've got 4/5 of a starting lineup and a 6th man. Either bring Korver back or trade for a 3 then start signing ring-chasers and you've got an instant contender.

You lose your TPEs when you go under the cap which they would have to do to sign a Big 3. Which puts them back to needing to get cheap value out of Horford or convince Dwight and CP3 that Horford > Smith.
