Which shows the utter stupidity of sterling. He calls it a players league and then throws his FA superstar under the bus.
CP3 the player >>>>>>> VDN the coach.
I don't think Sterling gives a shite.
He's made money hand-over-fist by running a horrid team for the last 30 years in the shadow of the Lakers.
He'll continue to make money, whether it is through a contender with CP3 and Griffin at the helm or by returning to a shitshow if CP3 walks.

If Paul considers leaving the Clippers, the Atlanta Hawks would be a potential landing spot. Paul always has been fond of the city of Atlanta, and the Hawks have the cap room to sign both Paul and Dwight Howard, a Lakers free agent, to lucrative contracts. Paul and Howard have spoken in the past about joining forces, but once Paul was traded to the Clippers in December 2011 and Howard was moved to the Lakers last summer, the duo figured that possibility was dead.
Howard, an Atlanta native, has been lukewarm at best about the idea of playing in his hometown. But the possibility of playing with Paul likely would get him to rethink his position.

Altanta is definitely a contender. Could they then re-sign Josh Smith AFTER Howard and Paul are signed?
But ATL is so apathetic about the Hawks...

We need a superstar player to get the city pumped up Howard and CP3 could do it.

I don't know why I said that. It made no sense in the context.

They have Horford, Lou Williams and John Jenkins on the books. Those 3 should be easy to unload either on a team with cap space or as part of a S&T to get Dwight or CP3. As long as all 3 took a slight paycut ala Miami, getting them to ATL shouldn't be an issue.

It made perfect sense. ATL is a city of transplants who root for other teams. They have to be really good to get the locals excited, but I think the bandwagon would start filling up if they got a Big 3 because you know ESPN would be talking about it non stop.

keep the Horford, lose Josh

I wonder if Horford could play with Dwight?
They would probably be better off trading him for a variety of pieces.

Doubtful.
The Hawks may have $40m, give or take, to play with but they have to fill 9 roster spots and will have large cap holds for Smith, Devin Harris, and others that will need to be renounced in order to make an offer to either CP3 or Howard.

It doesn't matter what you want, or even what Danny Ferry wants, it matters what Dwight and CP3 want.

Not too much, they need a lot of cap space to sign the big 3. Maybe #6 and Jason Smith would be a good value of cheap pieces.

he's more complementary than Josh is IMO. Horford's one of the best midrange/ outside shooting bigs there is. he doesn't really set up on the block a whole lot and could provide Dwight with spacing.

1) Renounce Everyone you can
2) Trade Lou Williams and John Jenkins to a team with cap space for a future pick.
3) Trade Al Horford to the Pelicans for #6 and Jason Smith.
4) Trade #6 to Minnesota for #9 and #26.
5) Draft local UGA star SG Kentavious Caldwell-Pope at 9
6) Use one of 17/18/26 on a backup big, package the other 2 picks for future picks or use on promising euro stashes
7) Sign CP3/Dwight/Josh Smith starting at $17 million each
Payroll is now pretty much at the $60 million cap including 6 minimum roster holds.
CP3
KCP
Josh Smith
Jason Smith
Howard/#17
They'd have a $2.5 million cap room MLE and can sign as many veteran minimum contracts as they wanted. Spend your $2.5 on the best ring chasing SF available and then get solid minimum guys like Roger Mason Jr. to fill out the rest of the roster. Yes that's a thin team, but so was/is Miami.
