So what's a realistic ETA for Bryant? I keep hearing September, but if he keeps mashing in AAA I would assume sooner, right?

If he comes close to hitting .355 and hits HR's at a pace he did in AAA, there's nothing left for him to prove in the minors especially with a hole at 3B in Chicago.

Month into next season. Or whatever gives the cubs an extra year of control. Don't think you'll see them waiting like polanco in order to avoid super 2

Schwarber 1 for 3 last night as well.
Things getting interesting...been a fun year already

If they can keep their record closer to .500 than not and Bryant continues Bryanting, I would think the organization would want he and Baez to be part of the competitive atmosphere at the end of the year.

I think the July trade off will remove any hopes of havering a competitive end of season run. Baez will come up in September (possibly before if he trims the ks down before) But not Bryant.

There are lots of if's in my situation. One big one is IF Samardzija gets traded and the Cubs can replace him with someone competent and not Chris Rusin.

Shark gonna get traded. Hopefully for a major league ready arm then we get masterson or Lester in the offseason and add a mid rotation guy too. That's my hope.

The Cubs have actually been .500 for about the last 36-38 games. I predicted they would do better than a lot of people expected and win around 75 games. I don't think they will do that because I think some pitching will get traded away, but the Cubs have been very competitive for the last month-month and a half. Imagine where they would be right now if we have Arrieta in the rotation pitching like he has been all year long instead of Villanueva starting some games and imagine if the bullpen never had Jose Veras and we went with the studs that we have now. We could easily be .500, if not a couple games over.
With all of that being said, I think the Cubs will trade Samardzija (even though I wish they wouldn't) and there is a good chance that Hammel will get traded (even thought I wish they wouldn't) and I don't think they will be as competitive in September as they are right now.
If they had Samardzija, Hammel, Baez and Bryant on the opening day roster in 2015, I think this team would absolutely be a strong wild card contender.

The Samardzija thing is a conundrum to me. I want the Cubs to sign him, but I look at the other side of the coin and I know the Cubs are going to get a great pitching prospect or two in return. Then they'll most likely spend on a front end pitcher in free agency. That's double dipping value buddy, and that's getting more bang for your buck than just signing Samardzija.
That's elementary, though, I don't have to tell you guys that. But things are definitely looking up.
ALSO, Cuban OF Yosmani Tomas just defected from Cuba. He's a 23 year old power hitting player who can play all three OF spots. That would be a very intriguing thing indeed.
Edited to add Yosmani Tomas porn.

Also, Kyle Schwarber went 1-3 yesterday at Kane County.

Theo quoted as saying he doesn't see a scenario where Bryant is called up this year. Not good for the placer or the club.

AI Guyz! Just wanted to drop in so you can show some gratitude to an Astros fan. If not for us, you'd probably be stuck with Mark Appel. For those not aware his season has consisted of 6 starts, a demotion to extended spring training and a lovely 11.94 ERA + .407 BAA. You're welcome.
Damn. It's a little early to say bust, but.....BUST!

The Appel thing is strange. I was pining for the Cubs to pick him.
I always said that Appel reminds me a lot of Luke Hochevar. Great size, great stuff, for some reason never puts it together.
Not to mention both turning down a team in the 1st rd and re-entering the draft again the next year.

You also wanted to keep Garza and Feldman last year.
They have to trade assets that aren't in the long term plans. For Samardzija it's money; they aren't even close as JS wants Homer Bailey money. Hammel is pitching over his head (much like Feldman last year) and his value will never be higher. The sole reason we signed him was to flip him to a contender needing pitching (like Feldman).
You can still spend $100m on a better pitcher next season and you can hope whatever prospects you get for Hammel hits

I think Bryant may force that decision more than Theo thinks

I can't imagine any scenario short of batting 1.000 that gets Bryant to wrigley this year.
Posted on 6/20/14 at 2:33 pm to piggidyphish
I don't know...if he's going to continue doing what he's been doing, a September call up will only help him as a player
Posted on 6/20/14 at 2:37 pm to Stogie
The discussion isn't of it would benefit him or would be wise it's will it happen. And based on both financials control of paler and status of the club coupled woth the fo's history of bringing along players there is almost absolutely no chance he gets called up this season and I'd be surprised to see him break camp with the cubs next year.
Again I'm not disagreeing woth you that it could be good for him and that he can handle it. Just that the fo won't do it.

Theo: no plans to send olt to minors. I'm indifferent about this.
