I really do...power bats and power arms. Stretching one or both of those guys out for a back end starter would be great.

Also, and i do this too often where i let a couple rays of sunshine paint my whole outlook (and i've done it with this guy before) but hat tip on getting arrieta. Man he's awesome right now.

Yes, he's been really good (Arrieta). I know Arrieta has to go out and execute what he's supposed to be learning, but I think a bigger hat tip needs to go to Chris Bosio.

The pitching, for the most part, has been very good this year.

HAI Guyz! Just wanted to drop in so you can show some gratitude to an Astros fan. If not for us, you'd probably be stuck with Mark Appel. For those not aware his season has consisted of 6 starts, a demotion to extended spring training and a lovely 11.94 ERA + .407 BAA. You're welcome.

He had an appendectomy prior to the season. There may have been some lingering effects from that but both Luhnow and Appel have said he's not injured. I think Appel can still contribute at some point. But Bryant was the guy I wanted. He's got unreal power. Springer, Singleton and Bryant would have been unreal for the Astros.

Bryant's success for ya'll isn't making the Appel pick easier to swallow for me. He'll be hitting 30 bombs and driving in 100 as soon as next year for the Cubs.

The Astros have done fairly well for themselves and its starting to show already. That's good.

The Appel thing is strange. I was pining for the Cubs to pick him.

Cubs signed P Jake Stinnett (Round 2) and P James Norwood (Round 7). Stinnett was regarded as the best college senior in the draft.

All that's left are #6 Dylan Cease, #8 Tommy Thorpe, #9 James Farris and #10 Ryan Williams from the top ten. #8-10 are all college pitchers. They will hopefully save some money for signing Cease.

Not totally relevant, but Cubs starters in 2014 have the highest WAR in baseball with an 8.1 and second best FIP in the league (Nationals are first). I don't remember the numbers exactly, but I saw on fan graphs.

Also, remember fan graphs WAR is different from baseball reference WAR and the stat kind of sucks, but it is still a good thing for sure.

Samardzija
Arrieta
Hammel
Sometimes Wood

The back end of the bullpen has been wonderful, too, since Rondon took over as closer and Neil Ramirez was called up. Even that slapdick knucklehead Brian Schlitter has been decent.
