@AdamSchefter

Bears declined the fifth-year option on QB Mitchell Trubisky, as @TomPelissero also reported.

Traded several picks to move up one spot, only to watch Mahomes and Watson become stars. The 49ers haven't been hurting from that pick either

Just think, they could have had Deshaun Watson or Patrick Mahomes.

Trubisky era in Chicago officially over

Not sure how it is "officially over" considering he has one more year, but okay.

I’m just so surprised. Who didn’t see him being great?

They passed over those guys too and the guy they picked at 3 they just declined the 5th yr option on. And the 3rd they got back from the Bears they traded to the Saints who used it to draft Kamara. They been fine obviously but that trade isn't sunshine and rainbows for them.

Fixed. Got confused on how long he'd been in the league.

Is it common to announce it this soon and still have him around 1 more year?

This was the concensus draft opinion on him according to NFL.com, numerous draft sites and commentators on ESPN:

quote:

DRAFT PROJECTION Round 1

SOURCES TELL US "There are times he looks like another Carson Wentz and then there are times he looks like Blaine Gabbert. He has starting qualities and he'll go early, but he better get better at seeing blitzes and throwing hot or he'll get eaten alive by the exotic packages they are throwing at quarterbacks these days." -- Area scout for AFC team

NFL COMPARISON Matthew Stafford.

How any team would waste a Top 2 pick (plus losing picks) on that is beyond me?

It's not like he was projected to be the next John Elway or Peyton Manning.

Ehh this isn’t really that newsworthy. If he sucks this season then you just move on. If he improves some, to be an average starter then you can sign him to a one year prove it deal likely cheaper than what you would have been paying him.

What would really help him and the Bears organization is if they would stop trying to run the Chiefs Ferrari offense with Honda parts.

I mean, the comparison is Stafford who went #1.
Also:
quote:

DRAFT PROJECTION Round 1-2
SOURCES TELL US "He's got a great arm, big balls and he's mobile. He is going to drive his head coach crazy for the first couple of years and there is no getting around that. If it clicks for him and he's coachable, I think he could become a special quarterback." - NFC executive
NFL COMPARISON Jay Cutler

That's Mahomes
quote:

DRAFT PROJECTION Rounda 1-2
NFL COMPARISON Marcus Mariota

That's Watson
Everybody's bad at this.

The reason they shouldn't have traded up for Trubisky is because he didn't play enough in college. If you're taking a guy that high with less than 20 starts he better have had a Cam Newton-like season.

I thought Nagy did a great job two seasons ago, but a lot of people said it was smoke and mirrors that would eventually get exposed. I guess they were right.
