The College Football Playoff will not flip the dates and times of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic and the Capital One Orange Bowl after SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said on Thursday he made the request to change them.

Sankey's concern was a potential disadvantage for Notre Dame, which will have to play on a shorter turnaround than Penn State, which hasn't played since New Year's Eve and will get a longer rest.
"We're not going to flip the games," CFP executive director Rich Clark told ESPN on Friday morning. "The concession we made with the athletic directors was to start the Sugar Bowl earlier -- an 18-hour or so delay. We slipped the game 18 hours to ensure we could provide safety and security for teams, coaches, staffs, fans and others involved. NOLA and Sugar Bowl officials were amazing."

Way too many moving parts to do this on such short notice. If this was in 2020 with empty stadiums, not a big deal, but too much right now

This is the right call. Flipping the games would frick most fans travelling to the games.

What is Sankey whining about?
Some teams have a bye week and the next week play teams that did not for regular reason games.
Notre Dame will have more rest at 7 days and 1 hour than many teams have when they play a Saturday night followed by a Saturday day game.
These playoffs have proven that too much rest may not be an advantage.

Stankey doesn’t even think or care about the fans traveling to these games.

Sankey has become such a pushover, jesus christ.

It’s a week turnaround which is normal for CFB season. They can just follow their nornal schedule they use during the season.

I get the part about the advantage, but Washington and Michigan had to play 7 days later for the championship last year. I thought was a tight turnaround for the biggest game of the year after they played deep into NYD. They probably got like two days of real prep back home.

Why does Sankey fake caring for ND?
He was only doing this to help UGA out if they won

Did the teams who had bye weeks in the playoffs so far have an advantage? Please, remind me how those teams fared this past week?

But yeah not a good idea considering travel plans for the fans.

Sankey asked it before the game on Thursday. Doubt he gave a shite / he probably dropped his request afterwards.

No clue. The early game is ND vs Penn State. Let ND's conference commissioner make that argument... Oh wait.
In fact, Sankey should have just kept his mouth shut. Texas is an SEC team. I am sure that they would much prefer the extra time between games.
But even the CFP directors statement makes him look like an idiot:
quote:So now the all mighty CFP in their benevolence made a concession to let them play the next day after the city was attacked by a terrorist .
