Baylor is undefeated with two top 25 wins. There are six teams ranked ahead of Baylor that have 1 or 2 losses and do not have at least two top 25 wins.

Baylor's schedule is kind of shite tbh. Their best win is a 3-loss Okie State. Beat Texas and OU and they'll have an argument.

Georgia has wins over ND and UF.

Bama has no good wins.

Oregon lost to Auburn, the one solid team they've played. Utah has no good wins.

Slovis threw 2 passes against Utah.. This is the game Fink took over.. So, Utah lost to USC’s third string QB..

If Minnesota finishes undefeated they will be in the playoff. Not so sure about Baylor.

If Minnesota is undefeated, it means they beat Ohio State or Penn State (again). They will definitely be in.

Baylor beating OU twice is impressive, but OU has shown some major issues of late, and doesn't appear near as strong as they once did.

BUT, I think Baylor is in if they are unbeaten. I just don't see an undefeated P5 champ getting left out.

so what?

Alabama's schedule is the same. Clemson's is worse.

Didn't read all replies, but....

"right now..." means alot you dipstick.

It's a ranking for this week as if the playoff was finalized, which it isn't.

It's a ratings show. A thread starter. A sports talking point for ratings. It's not final, nor is it relevant.

How many weeks left? So all of this sorts itself out...but what IF Oregon wins out, if OU wins out, if Minn wins out, if Baylor only has 1 loss. If Ga. wins SEC.

Bunch of ifs, ands, and buts, but weeks to sort out.

Big freaking deal right now.

Wisconsin will break Minnesota.

The only conspiracy will be Oregon/Utah with 1 loss and one losing in their conference title and the other sitting with one loss with Bama getting in.

Whoever were to win between Oregon and Utah would have a better resume than Bama and will be Conference Champs to boot. If Bama gets in over that than frick everything.

Bama has beaten two teams with winning records.Texas A&M and Southern Miss. Could increase to 5 if UT (5-5) and Duke (4-5) win out and they play Auburn who will have a winning record. That’s awful.

It’s eventually going to happen when all 5 conferences have undefeated champions.. The chaos will cause the playoffs to expand..

And they said they wouldn't because that was the big complaint with the BCS. They said they'd heavily weigh Conference Champs

And they will.

The current rankings are just fodder for espn and sports radio.

They will self correct after the conference championship games.

Bama is not getting in over a 1 loss or undefeated conference champion.

If they beat Iowa and Wisconsin and Ohio St they will be in the playoff

Then they would have 4 wins in the top 25. While Alabama only has to beat A&M and Auburn.

There's several things going on here, as usual.

There are:
1) resumes, i.e., quality wins,
2) eye test, game control, i.e., overpowering opponents
3) strength or weakness of schedule, having many quality opponents at one end, or many having teams with very poor records at the other. This applies as well to OOC schedules.

Every team's spot is a mixture of all three,
LSU is good in all three, Ohio State is good in 2-2.5 of the three.
Baylor loses out in eye test and SoS, as did Minnesota until last week, but the Gophers still lose out with their early games SoS and eye test.

As more weeks come in, the extra data will give a better result. I don't think it's a sham, it's just small sample statistics.

The only ranking that matters is the last one. These are just to get viewers and stir up shite.

Minny gets penalized for a weak schedule, yet Georgia can lose to six loss USC at home and be considered top 4? Beating Florida and Norte Dame aren’t some monumental achievements that should make up for that.

Beating Florida and Notre Dame is the equivalent of beating Penn State right now and UGA will either be SEC Champion or lose to LSU/Auburn so it doesn't matter, which is the reason they are ahead of Bama also.

Well obviously it would happen in that situation, but we aren't talking about 5 undefeated P5 champions, are we? At most, we could have 4 this year.

Has there ever been a season with 5 undefeated conference champions? Seems unlikely that we will ever see it.

Right now the rankings are for entertainment.

I don't think they've left anyone out in past year that they shouldn't have.

While I invite a rematch with Bama, the fact that they will back door their way into the playoffs makes the whole system look silly.

They play 2 ranked teams and got manhandled at home by the first...yet they'll still be in the playoffs.

Why play the season? We should just give Bama a permanent spot in the playoffs and everyone can play for the remaining 3.

Auburn gave LSU a tougher game than bama so does that make them one of the best 5 teams in the country?

Alabama would be a 17 point favorite vs Minnesota on a neutral field.

Also, you can't expect these teams to jump from 12 and 17 respectively into the top 6.

We should expect exactly that.
