How in the shite did you arrive at that conclusion?

Oregon losing to Auburn has nothing to do with the fact that they’d have a better win than Alabama. Your best win will be 4-loss Auburn, bubba. Deal with it

Explain again?

USCe beat UGA, but beating USCe doesn't make you better than UGA. Don't be dumb about the transitive property.

Take into consideration neither Utah or Oregon would have beaten a currently ranked team till they eventually play each other.

I will be waiting..

And what would Alabama have under their belt, a win over a 4 loss Auburn?

It's a ranking of the best teams, is it not?

“Best teams” based on what? Recruiting rankings? Hypothetical Vegas spreads? Or how about what actually matters: what happened on the fricking field?

Seriously, answer the question. How do you think “best” should be determined?

A whole bunch of Tiger fans will be just fine with the “eyeball” test if LSU loses the conf championship game to UGA and LSU gets in as an 11-1 non conf champion over a one loss conf champion.
A 12-1 lsu would have a better Resume as well than a 12-1 OU or a 12-1 Oregon

They wouldnt need the eye test.

Which should have no bearing on this year.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought the CFP committee is tasked for picking the best 4 teams as they see it. Not rewarding teams for their respective seasons.

Yes and no. They're explicitly tasked with picking the best 4 teams, but they're also asked so weigh resumes as well.

A few years ago Alabama lost two games and Vegas still had them as the best team in the country from a betting standpoint, IIRC.

On the field results have to actually matter.

So, like I said, you are ok with a 10-2 Bama (losses to lsu and Auburn) with no title and no ranked wins at all getting in over a 13-0 Big 10 champ Minnesota with 4 ranked wins and two top 5 wins?

I don’t subscribe to the “4 best teams” bullshite because there are many 2 and 3-loss teams annually who are stellar, results on the field and in the big games have to matter bc they reflect an ability to thrive under pressure against big-time teams and why the college football regular season means more than other sport. When people use the “4 best teams” argument, they basically just spit on the importance of the regular season and merits of winning their conference, it’s completely antithetical to basic notions of competitive sports.

Using Vegas spreads is one of the worst ideas ever made on this board.

At that point you are awarding pure potential and results in the field are almost completely ignored.

When you say "results on the field" is every win the same? Every loss?

Does an overtime win at home against a D2 school count the same as a blowout win on the road against a top 5 program?

You don't get to arbitrarily pick and choose what matters and what doesn't. If Notre Dame and App. State went undefeated this year would the playoff be Ohio State, Clemson, App State and Notre Dame?

You’re right. There should be some sort of way to compare results between teams with the same win/loss record, taking into account how strong each team’s opponents were. A sort of “strength of schedule” metric if you will.
