Maybe Bama fans will gain a tiny amount of appreciation of how tiny, uncalled penalties that don't fundamentally shift the scoreboard immediately create an uphill slog through the bullcrap that makes things more difficult than they should be, and stifles momentum......

I disagree.
If team A in Conference A loses a regular season game to a bad team, but wins their conference, they get in at 10-1
If team B in Conference B is undefeated, but loses their conference title to a good team, they get left out at 10-1?
I'm fine with conference champion being an auto bid in a larger playoff field, but it should not be a requirement.
They need to bump this to 16 teams.
-P5 Conf champ auto bid backers are happy
-Non P5 team backers are happy
-Eye test people are happy
-We all get more football
Problem is, you'd have to look very hard at eliminating the cupcake non conference games during the regular season which would crush a lot of the smaller programs who rely on that money.
