In other words, if the #4 team can’t play in their semi-final game due to COVID, the #1 team apparently will get a bye week and advance to the championship.
quote:

"During a thorough and robust conversation, the CFP management committee today agreed not to place a replacement team in the playoff should a school not be able to field a team because of COVID after Selection Day," Hancock said. They also decided that each team will use its conference's COVID-19 testing protocol in connection with the CFP games.

Additionally, the committee currently plans to keep the current playoff schedule.
quote:

The College Football Playoff management committee on Wednesday agreed to keep the playoff on its current timeline and name a national champion as planned on Jan. 11 in Miami Gardens, Florida, unless the coronavirus pandemic forces a schedule change, CFP executive director Bill Hancock told ESPN.

Seriously unfair competitive advantage.

Seems fair. If Big 10 hates it quit voting in chodes and counts into positions of leadership to govern and run your state.

I do understand how, if they won’t change the schedule for the playoff or delay games, it could be basically impossible to replace one of the teams that can’t play due to COVID. Let’s say the #4 team has a bunch of positive tests/contract tracings 3 or 4 days before the semi-final games. There’s really no way to ask the #5 team to prepare to play the #1 team and make swift accommodations to travel to whichever site (Pasadena or New Orleans) in such a short amount of time. Plus, that would screw whoever the #5 team was supposed to play in a bowl game.

It would also screw over the #1 team who’d have been preparing for the #4 team for 4 weeks

Going to be fun to have a forfeited championship game. Automatic victory.

Wait, so #2 and #3 would still play? That's dumb.

If one set can't play the other set shouldn't play.

This is similar to a team not playing for its conference championship getting into the playoff. That's one less week of potential injury.

Also, the other high seed shouldn't have to fight for its right to the game if the other one doesn't have to, so I hope they realize that.

Would be worse if #2 got COVID. Then #3 gets a bye and #1 has to play.

Absolutely despise the idea of just letting playoff games end in forfeit

But I can't come up with a fool proof plan anyways

Because what if you let #5 play and then the days before they get tested out. What if you spread the games out to allow for negatives but it doesnt work anyways.

frick all the people scared about Covid is my answer

That’s not actually what this means.

If this happens, they will reschedule the game and push out the championship for a certain period of time to make it happen
