Take on Rip's TERRIBLE contract to move up two spots No thanks.
2 years 25 mill isnt the worst contract in teh world. I think Rip could be worth it for us. I still think he's a good player. Im sure we have a ton of cap room.

Many would argue there's a pretty big difference between #2 and #4 this year. Especially if Kanter isn't on the board at 4. Not to mention, as stated, Gilbert doesn't give a shite about spending money to win.
ETA: And he'd likely be bought out.

This.

Cleveland would then buy Hamilton out of the $25 million remaining in the last two years on his contract, leaving the veteran shooting guard free to sign with another club as a free agent. Chicago would be one of the likeliest destinations.

Cleveland nearly traded for Hamilton at the February trade deadline with the intention of buying him out. In that scenario, Hamilton would have signed with Chicago after the buyout. The motivation for Detroit, which has been looking to move Hamilton for years, is mainly financial.

what if they only make the deal with Detroit- they would have the #1, #4, & #8 picks

I'd rather the 2 than the 4 and 8, but obviously, both are good options.

has to be a trade exception involved. A
yeah if you trade a guy to a team with cap space, the salary you trade creates the trade exception

it will be an expiring next year
even if a hard cap is implemented, it will have to come over time. that contract could be worth its weight in gold
i mean like pau gasol or bynum gold

I understand it a little bit from Detroits perspective. But, I think they would want JJ Hickson back in return. Anyone else think that ?

$$$
and gets rid of a guy who doesn't want to be there anymore.

Didn't Rip get into with the coaches/GM this year as well? Wasn't he the one that organized the missed practice?

Hamilton is a major cancer, has been that way for years. They just want him gone.
Of course...this is why you don't haphazardly pass out contract extensions without thinking about future financial ramifications. Joe D lost his luster well before the ownership fiasco.

Kyrie Irving and Derrick Williams. This would be awesome.

They shouldn't. If Dumars were to pull the trigger on this nonsense, he should be fired.

Is there someone they're targeting this offseason?
...which is why I said the above. To have any meaningful room under the cap (wherever that ends up) would require renouncing Stuckey and Tayshaun. No worthwhile free agent is signing with Detroit to play alongside that roster. Hell, who is going to be coaching that team? Sure as Hell isn't going to be Kuester.

Was Williams just a 1 year wonder?
1 year?
He put up 15.7/7.1 as a freshman while shooting 57%
19.5/8.3 as a soph shooting 59%
2 really really good years

I'd take Kanter(1), Walker(4), and Vessely (8)

Trade down from 1 to 3 in that scenario then.

of all the bonehead moves dumars has made (darko, iverson) the dumbest move was spending all the 2010 cap room a summer earlier. Clearing room would be best.
