By the time I enrolled at LSU in August of 93 I was 6'3 220lbs and easily walked on the shitty LSU team in Winter of 94, making 3rd DE on the depth chart behind Gabe Northern and Eric Valentino.
Eta: I gave up Football dream for Rugby when LSU Recruited Mike Sutton the next summer. I was never seeing the field

I graduated at 17. I was playing varsity football at 14. I was good but if i was held back two years. I would have been dominant.

I'm a Curtis grad and I was held back in 6th grade. My good friend who I won't mention was held back in 8th grade so that he could have three years as a starter vs two.

It's been widely known and totally legal by all the rules. They spot a talented middle school athlete and convince parents to hold him back. It improves his shot at a college athletic scholarship(part the parents like) and helps the HS team win championships and the kid can be a star(kid loves this part). Win win.
Nothing can be done to stop this abuse. It be what it be.

Rodney sr and Jr(he went by Rodney his freshman year. Odd to Change to Collin) both did it. The 92 team won a championship. The 18 team did today. Proof is in the Championship Puddin.

Parents make those choices for their kids everywhere. What you are saying is the JT sits down the parents like a mafia boss and tells them to hold back their kids or else. That’s asinine.
Also, if JT was actually doing that, you better believe the LHSAA would have dropped the hammer by now.

The problem is they have Coach Corey go recruit middle schoolers and offer the family scholarships if they can't afford the tuition. I don't know if they do this anymore, but definitely did while I was there.

It's not against the rules, they can play if they make 19 past the Sept 1st deadline...
Curtis owns the school, he knows how and is going to "skirt" the rules because he can, he's not firing himself. He's been coaching for how long now...
