So is CE Byrd state champ for 2020 or is the title simply vacated?

God forbid one of the best schools in the state (objectively) offer free or significantly reduced tuition to a promising athlete and better that athlete’s future significantly. This type of thing can set that young man on a path to prominence, athletically or academically, helping that young man break the cycle of poverty and empower him and his future children for generations

If they were getting a sincere CHS education, I would agree. But it's more like an elite academic college like USC or UCLA giving a student-athlete their own personal educational experience to make sure they stay eligible. Being coddled through CHS (and LSU) definitely empowered Guice, just not in a good way.

What do they practically provide to help in these areas?

They could agree to play by NFHS safety rules and get the same insurance rates. Do you think a league of the top 12-16 teams in LA would have trouble finding venues to play in or referees to work their games? If anything, it would hurt the rest of LHSAA schools.

That’s pretty cynical of you to assume that a kid that’s recruited can’t realize or be told the value of the opportunity he’s been given and push himself academically to take advantage of it

And it's pretty generous of you to ascribe that kind of long term thinking to a middle schooler being recruited to high school for sports via his youth coach.

Let’s be real. They recruit parents more than they recruit kids

Tell me how a private school with no feeding schools breaks the rules by recruiting students to come to its school. Literally every student that goes to Catholic is recruited in some form. If you told me Catholic was sending coaches to West Monroe to tell players to move to BR to go to Catholic, that might be over the line. But Catholic is well within its rights to recruit the EBR area and surrounding areas

There is no coddling at CHS. There are some students that will get additional help, but it’s not due to lack of effort. This isn’t LSU or Bama where the students get private tutors that do all their homework and they take the pass/fail classes or take special easy C courses just for athletes
