If they decide to expand, I'm okay with either of these options.
The key is that both options would provide incentive to be a higher seed so that there are no meaningless conference championship games.

1)
8 teams
Top 4 seeds get to host the 1st round of games
5 auto bids, 1 G5 bid (with caveats), and 2 at-large bids.

2)
6 teams
Top 2 teams get a bye
No auto bids, just the 6 highest ranked teams

Sounds perfect.

Please explain in more detail how the BCS era was better, in your opinion. And explain how you know the BCS "got it right" when it only took the top 2 teams (in the minds of the committee).

First off there was no committee in BCS.

Secondly, the regular season has been weakened. Used to, it was completely out of your hands once you lost one game. That's not really the case as much now, especially for the blue bloods.

Do you remember just how nerve wracking it was seeing your team play it close in regular season games? Sure, it hasn't changed that you still can't stand losing, but it used to have very, very real consequences.

I'm not saying I don't enjoy the CFP but you have to concede that particular outcome.

Yeah, the four-team playoff has simply guaranteed that Bama must lose twice to be eliminated. Which will never happen.

TCU in 2014 will always be my case for expanding the playoffs. Pretty firm believer they were the second best team behind OSU that year.

I feel you dude.

But if that didn't happen, we never would have gotten Ole Miss getting skullfricked 41.3 in the Peach Bowl (they finally got to Atlanta!), in which those three points came from the Saddest of Sad field goals while down by 41 points, and in which Ole Miss ordered Peach Bowl rings for the team and staff.

Every season at the beginning of October people are like.. THERE'S GONNA BE 8 UNDEFEATED TEAMS THIS SEASON. And then the last week of November rolls around and.... there's not.

The Playoffs should be 8 teams. 5 Auto Bids. 6th Spot goes to the best "Vegas" team regardless of rank. the 7th spot goes to the next best team and then the fans should vote in the 8th team.

The inch-mile, never-satisfied argument against a playoff still proving correct.

I’m sorry that Wisconsin hasn't been able to climb much higher than fringe top 10 though. That program should be doing better but for some reason isn't.

Getting frustrated and bringing some weird claim about Wisconsin into the thread? Fine, I’ll play...

Wisconsin, by every objective measure, overachieves relative to its average recruiting ranking. The Badgers are No. 5 in wins over the last five years, No. 6 over the last decade, and No. 6 in the last 15 seasons.

“Should be doing better”...

I can't believe someone thinks 'Wisconsin" should be doing better. Every time they lose a coach and hire someone I think will finally bring them to mediocre (Minnesota -like status) the next guys is uber successful too.

So penalize the teams from the SEC while Clemson, OSU and OU our class their conferences? Yes Texas is good, as is Wisconsin, but they have at best a slim chance to win.

Until all power 5 champions get an auto bid we need to expand. Until we get a system where 65% of teams aren’t eliminated before the season starts we need expansion

I still think 8 would be perfect. 5 auto bids P5 champs, 2 wildcards, highest ranked mid major

I still think, as it stands now, that a 6 team playoff is the best. It doesnt dillute the regular season. Winning your conference would still be very important.

I would say #1 and 2 get a bye.

4 highest rated conference champs are auto-qualifiers plus 2 at large teams. This way, if need be, you could still theoretically get 3 teams from one conference if they are ranked above the 5th conference champ.

That’s not remotely true. Every year there is a legit D1 champion who had to fight through a playoff.

Yes but even when thats over, two teams get a free pass right to the playoffs.

Clemson and OU both have minor league schedules..

OU has to get by Texas twice, OSU and K State on the road. The pokes are a top 20ish squad and KSU is tough this year. Wouldn't be surprised to see OU finish with a loss or two.

Clemson's schedule on the other hand is terrible. They wont play a ranked team all year.
