Can anyone run a 5 minute mile with training?

I’m stealing this topic from a running board. Let’s say you can give anyone the top notch trainers, cooks, and facilities over any amount of time(no time frame). The question...is every human body, let’s say 18-35, capable of running a 5 min mile. Unlimited resources.
Obviously those with a disability don’t count. I mean relatively healthy young adults.
It looks like most of us would believe it’s nit possible, so what percentage of people would you believe it’s possible?
I believe 80 percent of people could run a 5 min mile with unlimited resources. I do believe 20 percent wouldn’t have the coordination or a low vo2 max threshold.

No way, just like not everyone could score 1400 plus on the SAT with unlimited training resources.

I would tend to agree with y’all. I do think if you had unlimited resources, most people would run in the 5 min range but not all. Coordination is one reason some wouldn’t. I would say with unlimited resources 80 percent of people would be capable.

Population is way too soft and lazy for the number to be that high, and the requisite training is a big ask psychologically.
And 75-second pace is probably not that far off of top speed for a lot of people as well.

I wasn’t really going for the mental aspect. I was speaking on pure athletic ability given from birth.

I think a better way to frame it would be to ask if any HS baseball player could. That way you confine it to a population which is generally coordinated and slightly above average athleticism. Thus a limited number of fatasses and nerds.
But I still think a lot of it for people that are close is sustained mental grit for 5 minutes, so it's kind of impossible to decouple that.

In high school a great time for me was 6:25. And that was me being in great shape. 5:00 would be unfathomable for me, at any age, much less over 30 years old.

It's possible depending on age. Given total dedication. I mean, we aren't talking the 4-minute mile here.
But even super in shape high testosterone high schoolers...running sub-5 is still a big deal.
If you're over 30 and aren't a great athlete, you probably have no shot.

I think I could as long as I didn’t have to work

Sub 6, maybe, sub 5, no way. I've run with guys who were sub 50 sec in the 400m who couldn't run a sub 5 minute miles.

My experience as a runner when I was high school says no. We had a great coach and youth on our side but of the 40 guys on the cross country team, only 7 could break 5 minutes. And we won our district 5A in Texas when that was the top district.
