right, that's why they won the division 2 years in a row.

one of those years they won arguably the worst division in the history of football and the other year required a last second TD pass.

don't start acting like Cam's Panthers are coming out on top of some gauntlet of a division like the NFCW.

Carolina fans? I'd think cam haters would be happy. they don't think he is a good qb and giving him $100 mil hurts the team using that logic. this is a win for his haters, if that's who you were referring to

so, they still made the playoffs and even won a playoff game, that doesn't "suck" as you put it.

is that supposed to be a criticism? They went 12-4 and got the #2 seed, by no rational definition does that suck.

no one said anything of the kind, you are the one mired in extreme thinking saying the team and Newton suck, which can only be because of your own inane bias against him and or the Panther. Whether you like it or not it is a fact that the did win the division 2 years in a row (the first team to ever do so in the NFC South BTW) how exactly does that "suck"?

At the end of the Cam Newtown segment on the espn E:60 show a few months ago a video was shown at his football camp for kids. He was talking to them and ended his speech with "If you not turnt up you a fool man" then dropped mic and exited stage right. It was at this moment I knew without a doubt he will never win a Super Bowl in his career.

If you want to keep a good qb, you have to pay him. This is the going rate for good qbs

they went 7-9 and beat a team without a QB in the playoffs. congrats.

they did have a really good 2013 but that year is clearly the outlier in his career to date. for christ's sake, Newton had a 39.1 QBR against the 2014 Saints AT HOME.

they did win the division twice in a row. however, one year they did it with a LOSING RECORD. therefore they suck. having the best record out of a bunch of shitty teams doesn't really impress me. and being the first team to win the NFCS back to back is completely fricking irrelevant.

This.

Cam Newton makes the Panthers better. The options for a franchise QB are limited. You don't want to end up being like the Browns who go through multiple QBs a year.

Good for him, terrible for the Panthers. Huge QB contract will kill them.

Will it kill them more than having a bad qb?

I'm fine with it.

I've never been in love with him as our QB even if he does continue to rustle so many Saints fans (and oddly enough LSU fans 5 years later?). But fact is he is just as good as other QBs getting paid the same - it's just the going rate for a decent QB now a days. We all want to land the next Manning, Luck, Rodgers, etc...

i didn't do anything so i don't know why you are congratulating me, but thanks, i guess.

his career is only 4 years old, 4 years in Brees only had 1 good season. now, I'm not saying Newton will be Brees, but to suggest he and the team suck is stupid hyperbole. I don't think he is a great QB and odds are he probably won't win a SB, but his contract is not out of line with what other good starting QBs, including some that haven't even done as well as Newton/Carolina have done so far.

Also his QB R was 90 vs the Saints ON THE ROAD, not sure that 2 games tell us anything though.

that they had a losing record 1 year is also irrelevant, the goal is to win the SB, you can't do that if you don't make the playoffs, they made the playoffs, to do so they had to win their last 4 games. some people might even say that is clutch and they were 7-8-1, not 7-9

A durable QB that has helped lead his team to the playoffs two years in a row, 2x pro bowl selection, has helped the Panthers become more profitable than ever, keeps his nose clean, and gives back to the community. Yes, terrible franchise move.

That's a fairly standard QB contract for any decent to good QB in the NFL. And Cam is obviously in that category, and adds a lot of untapped potential and marketing appeal that may not be there for other folks in his tier.

Wait isn't it $20M Per so on the level with Rodgers / Brees etc.;?

Don't see why this is so out of line?

Its the going rate for a winning QB these days. His play last season was a step back though maybe due to injuries but he is going to have to get more accurate. His running will slow down in the coming years.
