Named for and originally owned by renowned racist head coach Frank Howard. Howard refused to integrate his teams during the height of the Jim Crow era and was well known of being a racist. This rock and it's meaning has no place in today's society. African American athletes touch this rock every Saturday home games in the fall, not knowing that the original owner and namesake wouldn't have even let them on the team due to their race. We must stand up and remove this image of racism.

How about we remove the racist Dabo and then have a legitimate investigation into how a shite tier school with a handful of alums paid people to turn from Boston College tier within 2 years

Are you saying they should change the name, or are you telling us that there are people out there that want them to change the name?

If Clemson does that, they'll lose 2/3 of their fans and almost all their big boosters.

I don't want this because it'll further entrench the name Death Valley, and despite them having that name first, we all know the real Death Valley is in Baton Rouge.

I’m just here to say I’m shocked there haven’t been more sprained ankles running off that hill.

Doubt that
They’re winning football games
No one is going to stop shoveling cash or watching them

I know Clemson well. It is a very politically conservative fanbase, much moreso than ours. My mother's family have been in IPTAY for 70 years. A lot of their big boosters are your wealthy whites in rural and small town SC where agriculture is still a large part of the economy. These people are not happy with Clemson right now and more than a few of them have told me they're ready to stop giving money altogether.

That just sounds dumb to me
Since they’re a winning program

The results are there! Who cares about anything else

All my Clemson family are old school Clemson fans. Their hero is Danny Ford, not Dabo Swinney. Their view of Clemson is wrapped up in it being a very Southern school whose identity is linked with the farmers of South Carolina. They are not the megachurch stereotype that you find with new Clemson fans. And your old school Clemson fans are where the big money is. They want Clemson to retain what's it has historically been perceived as.

Honestly I thought the mega church and old school were the same thing.

What about the new Clemson fans that make it big outside of SC?
Like Silicon Valley or Wall Street?

Clemson has a ton of new fans who like them because Dabo Swinney is college football's version of Joel Osteen. These are the new Clemson fans, who couldn't tell you a thing about Woody Dantzler, Brentson Buckner, Rodney Williams or Michael Dean Perry. Call them the Marty Smith brigade. These are not your good ole boy Clemson types, and they most likely have no affiliation with the school.

The older Clemson fans lived through the nightmare of Danny Ford leaving, a fan revolt during Ken Hatfield's tenure, the disaster of Tommy West and the Clemsoning period of Tommy Bowden, which saw them lose almost 1 or 2 headscratchers every year. The fans that have been through this are your alums and IPTAY members. These are people with deep connections to the university and deep pockets.

There are some of these, but they're not as numerous as the old money Clemson types. And if they live out of state, they have very little influence in choosing BOT members. Half of Clemson's BOT is selected by the General Assembly. Some tech guy in Cali doesn't mean shite to a SC legislator when he and his buddies don't vote here.
