Wow have to feel for the dude
Didn’t even get a chance
Zero defensive snaps

ETA: Butler played 97% of their snaps before tonight
Had the most defensive snaps on the team this season

ETA Part 2: Rowe says he was told just before kickoff that he was starting in Butler's place. Had no idea before he was told.

Not like he could’ve been much worse than what was out there

Why was he crying during the anthem? Something else was awry tonight with Butler.’

Really strange what has happened with him. I wonder what the whole story is.

It will be interesting to see what comes out about all of that. Literally could have replaced Jordan Richards with Butler and had better results.

Very odd. He was clearly no worse of an option than what they had out there. Foles has been aying well of late, but he's still Nick Foles and he shredded them for nearly 400 yards.

Something must have happened, and the way Butler is already talking, we may actually find out what it was.

Coach Bill Belichick said the decision to keep Butler off the field was strictly a game-plan decision.

"We put the best -- the players out there and the game plan out there that we thought would be the best tonight like we always do."

Asked if Butler was held out because of disciplinary reasons, Belichick responded, "no."

It’s time someone calls Belichick on his shite. His schtick is old

Probably because the once SB hero got told he wasn't good enough to help his team try and win another one.

That was very odd that he didn't get any defensive snaps, because at least if he had not played at all, you could attribute it to an injury in practice. It wasn't like he could have been much worse than what was out there.

Sounds like Butler is the only one on the Patriots that will go to bed in a good mood tonight.

Yeah, that excuse that Belichick was going with really doesn't make much of sense. I haven't followed the situation super closely or anything, but it does kind of seem like they have whipped around Butler for the last couple of years and then when he inevitably got disgruntled they shamed him. I don't know how Butler has been handled through the playoffs, but it would be interesting to hear.

Saints are thanking their lucky asses that they didn't complete that trade now, and decided to seek help through the draft. Just look at the results now, they got a young, gifted Pro bowl CB (Lattimore) and a slew of really good young players through the draft that have made them the team of the future.

He played on ST

Speculation on Twitter was he was upset in pregame because he was told he wasn’t playing on defense in the game
