Brisbane is set to be the first Olympic host selected unopposed under a new system to streamline bid campaigns to make them less costly and decrease the risk of vote buying. Tokyo's campaign and that of 2016 host Rio de Janeiro were tainted by corruption allegations that are part of ongoing criminal investigations

Still, Brisbane's rapid selection this year sidelined officials in Germany, Hungary, Indonesia and Qatar who had been in talks with Olympic officials about shaping bids.

I lived there for a bit. Great city. Very temperate weather. Not sure how it hosts such a big event. Guess they’ll spread the events up and down the coast.

This is so stupid. We're all scheduled to be dead from climate change in what, 11 years? How many people will be left in 2032 to actually compete?

The time zone is annoying for us but a good choice, otherwise.

Kind of crazy how Beijing, Tokyo, and Brisbane are all each one time zone apart.

Now the 2030 Winter Olympics are up. No clue where that will go after two straight Asian games and then one in Europe, with Salt Lake City as the likely 2034 spot.

I travel there (well before COVID) quite often, and it a great city all-around. Fantastic sky-line from the view of a water taxi.

In about an hour you can either be on the Sunshine or Gold Coasts depending on which way you travel.

Yeah they have a good rail system as well. I’m probably not giving them due credit. Lots of growth the past few years.

Sydney just had one in 2000. Melbourne had one too. This will put Australia in the three Summer Olympics cities club with the USA (L.A., Atlanta, St. Louis).

Brisbane was my favorite port call in the Navy.

....it is true, that at least in the early 2000’s, their young women LOVED an American accent.

That’s a fact. It amazed me the ladies some Americans were able to pull there.

Why would a beautiful city like that want to bankrupt itself? After Athens and Rio, hosting the Olympics is a politicized money pit.

You know if you're Brisbane and get awarded the Olympics, everyone else is like, ya we're done.

Btw, nomination for Olympic mascot:

So much better than Sydney's Olympic mascots:

It'll most likely be in September similar to the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

That seems like a very cool location to have the games.

No, they are not on the list. UK and France each have had one Summer Olympics city. USA and soon to be Australia will have three cities that have hosted the Summer Olympics.

Ah, I misread it. My bad.
