Isn't this only a thing on the goalline? Sticking the ball out and intentionally bringing it back in the field of play is not the same thing. Tucking the ball on your own is the same as getting the first down and running backwards.

He started being pulled back by defenders as the ball was extended. At that point, the play is dead where the ball is extended. Nothing after that matters

He intentionally pulled the ball back into his chest so it didn’t get knocked out. Unless I have no idea what the rule is it shouldn’t have been a first down.

Ehhh that was a fast extension and tuck.

Wrong. He didn’t sit there with the ball extended, he pulled it back short of the line to gain himself.

It’s just like bouncing off of a tackle, then running backwards and being tackled short. Not a first.

Yeah it was a bad call.

It’s like if I ran to the 1 yard like about to score then turned around and kneed down at the 10. Where would the spot the ball? The 10. He voluntarily pulled it back. Bad spot.

And? It doesn’t matter if he intentionally threw the ball backwards at that point. He was being ripped backwards by defenders. The play was dead

Forward progress is ended when the ref blows his whistle. Did he blow his whistle immediately when the KC player got pulled back? If not then the play is not dead.

Dude your analogy is a player running on his own backwards, not being dragged backwards by defenders

Once the defenders started dragging him backwards, what he does with the ball after that point does not matter. Period

Pride is right. I didn't put that together until I read what he said. If they ruled his forward progress was stopped with the ball extended that is where the ball is placed. Doesn't matter he pulled it back once it is ruled dead. The replay can reset a spot due to forward progress I believe.

I’ve never heard of this. Not saying it’s true I’ve just never seen it. It’s a weird situation for sure.
