It's safe to say that the USA will NOT fire Bradley a year before the World Cup, now if we don't qualify I expect changes imediately.

WOW! WHAT A CHANCE!

Some food for thought b/c I am getting bored watching this beating:

Cowherd made a great analogy in my opinion. Soccer is a lot like college football. The top 3 or 4 teams in the FIFA rankings are light years ahead of teams ranked 10+. He compared it to a #1 USC or LSU against a #13 Boston College or Boise State.

I thought he was a little off but I am beginning to think that was a great analogy.

I'm just concerned about how far Bradley will end up setting us back. Bruce Arena did a lot to get us to the next level, but took us as far as he could. He also was his own un-doing by sticking with Kasey Keller in 06. I just don't see us getting any better with Bradley, in fact I see the exact opposite. And thats frustrating as hell for us longtimers.

I just haven't seen where US soccer has improved since Bradly was hired. I would suspect everything should start with Donovan, but he rarely touches the ball. He absolutely disappears in big matches and the team falls apart. That being said, we are missing some keys players (Hejduk and Ching), but this only magnifies some of the existing problems with US soccer. I am not seeing the development of the younger players, and this has to be put onto the powers that be in US Soccer.

Ching hurts really bad IMO and we could use Hejduk's leadership.

I have been disheartened the most by our lack of young talent with huge upside (outside of Jozy maybe). Other countries seem to be able to handle injuries and can plug-n-play without missing a step. For a country of 300 million we lack serious depth.

Between the World Cup 06 and this shite, we are 0-1-5 in the tournaments against the big teams...

What happened to Adu? He played almost as well as Altidore in that Under 18 or Under 21 match v's Brazil last year. I thought he was coming around but is he just too short to make an impact v's the big boys?

I am tired of hearing about young players who are coming up, and that needs playing time. The US has been building soccer for the past 15 years to become an international player, but it seem to have plateaued. We should have a pipeline of talent waiting for their chance to play, but I am not seeing it translate onto the field.

This was discussed a few pages ago. We seem to be split about 50/50 on Adu. Many of us feel he is too small and lacks elite speed to be a great player. But we can all agree, that we would like him to get a shot b/c it can't get any worse.

Here's a piece by Wahl just over a year ago:

quote:

• Freddy Adu made a difference. After the U.S.'s miserable display against England last week, I was hoping Adu would get a chance to start as an attacking central midfielder in a 4-5-1 formation against Spain, and that's exactly what happened. The 19-year-old Adu is one of the few U.S. players who has confidence on the ball in tight space, and he was dangerous in his 45 minutes of action, unsettling the Spanish defense, drawing fouls and serving some penetrating balls to Eddie Johnson up front. Adu was also noticeable by his absence in the second half, when the U.S. was unable to mount any credible attacks up the middle. Adu hasn't had many chances to perform for the U.S. senior team, but this was easily his best performance yet at this level. Here's hoping he gets more opportunities soon.

So WTF? He played well in that match, he played great v's Brazil in the under 21 game... what gives?

Okay sorry I didn't read this thread b/c I was working. I'll check out what everybody says about Adu.

The thing is if we keep not using him he's going to play for Ghana isn't he? That's what I would do if I were him - be like "frick US Soccer - I'll take my game to the homeland".

No worries... I wouldn't have read the whole thing either. I gave you a pretty fair synopsis of what was said.
