I haven't seen AG play, atleast not recently. How is his fielding skills?

I dont know a whole lot about baseball. But whatever we have to do to get Bobby to the playoffs Im fine with

has a good glove. his arm isn't what Yunels is but there aren't many that are.

Anyone who thinks this is the greatest trade or worst trade is wrong IMO. It's a good trade to try to improve the lineup for the rest of the season to win a world series and may not be the best long term move for the Braves and our SS situation. I don't think this makes the Braves extremely better this year or doomed for centuries to come like most of you think. I always liked Yunel Escobar but everyone on this board is acting like he is Derek Jeter.
Does anyone agree that it's not as drastic of a change both good or bad?

quote:I wouldn't say we have no replacement. Diory Hernandez has put up ok numbers for Gwinnett. Last year he hit .319 with an OPS of .821. Not great numbers I know, but if he can get on base 4 out of 10 times the RBI guys should be able to get him in.
and we have no replacement in the farm

I would think they would exercise Gonzalez' club option for next year.

atleast he can contribute as well as Yunel did.

has anyone thought about how much better shape the braves would be if chipper were to retire?
we could EASILY land carl crawford in the offseason, and i think we could go after uggla as well.
prado at third, infante at short, uggla at second.
idk what to do, this really fricks us up going forward, i dont care what everyone else thinks, this will hurt us going after the big names bc, after addressing 1b, we will now have to address short as well

AG is on a one year deal... This is all about getting Bobby to the playoffs. We owe that to him.

Holy shite that is a depressing list. They better be 100% sure that Salcedo is gonna be MLB ready in 3 years because none of those guys is a long term option.

You're right about that but you're wrong about who it is. Diory will never be a starting MLB player
It's Edward Salcedo who is 18 years old and won't be ready for 4 years at least
we have to find someone until then

I found this in the mlbtraderumors comments:
A very quick a dirty review of the Braves SS prospects:
1. Brandon Hicks: An older ready now type of prospect who is on the MLB bench right now. He plays plus defense at short with some power, patience and speed but serious contact issues are keeping him from being a viable option this year.
2. Mycal Jones: A toolsy SS in high A with much of the raw ability you look for in an athletic SS. He is still obviously developing and needs to clean up the amount of errors he makes.
3. Edward Salcedo: One of the biggest positional player signings from the international market for the Braves in a while. He has a rare combination of power, plate coverage, and speed but many think he will outgrow SS and have to move to third.
4. Matt Lipka and Andrelton Simmons: Our S and 2 round picks respectively. Lipka is the more all around top of the order type SS prospect that combines amazing athletic ability with contact/plate control and solid defense. Simmons was the top defensive prospect in the draft and has the arm to be a power reliever prospect if he/they wanted. His bat really needs to develop is he is going to make it to the bigs.

I think chipper will end up retiring at the end of the season. Especially if we go to the world series.
And omfg at a the thought of crawford and heyward in the OF

Just a little info on the minor league reliever we got.
Collins, a 20-year-old lefty, was ranked 19th among Blue Jays prospects by Baseball America heading into this season. The 5'7" southpaw "gets outs with a solid fastball that tops out at 93 mph and a true 12-to-6 curveball that he spins really well." Working in relief, Collins has a 15.3 K/9 in 43 Double A innings this year.

How about we let the trade play out a bit before firing all the nukes? Paranoia, I swear...

Please no Diory
Can we at least see how he plays? Gonzalez not Diory.

we're not gonna have any choice but to take on A gon's option. I sure as hell dont want him playing SS for us for a whole year next year but we won't have any other solid options
we're so screwed in the next two/three years unless we start dishing out money big time. Yeah Chipper retiring would help but I don't see it happening with how he's been hitting recently, unless he has a major injury. fml

tylerdurden24: I'm with you. Damn. chill people. swampdonks is on suicide watch over here. You would think that Yunel was on his way to cooperstown if you read this thread.

If Chipper doesn't retire we are gonna have to go to like $110-115 million or so on the payroll. Freeman just isn't ready, and I'm not sure he ever will be, so we kinda have to try to re-sign Glaus. He is gonna want more than the $1.75 million we are currently paying him. We are gonna need a couple of outfielders most likely, or at least 1. Schafer isn't ready either, so he isn't an option. We are gonna have to pick up Gonzalez's option too, because there just isn't anyone out there that we could get who is any better.
