but who has the leverage here? the chargers. only the final result will tell us if this kid's agent let him down.

You're looking at it from the perspective of the one on one relationship between the Chargers and the player. Yes, for that they have an advantage.

But in the larger sense they are really cutting off their own nose to spite their face. They are now being called out for being an incompetent organization that people shouldn't want to play for - at the same time they may be looking to relocate.

Big picture here. Isn't this a good time to look like the opposite. Sure, you might frick over a top draft pick for a few million, but your organization's profits may be affected by hundreds of millions if this alters their relocation deals.

Anyone think this is a players association push now on Bosa's part? This league is a 'fraternity' and this could turn into a power struggle for future top 5/10 picks

all that matters are the issues, priorities and desires of the people at the table. I don't blame sides unless one side is acting in bad faith,

FWIW, I think the Chargers are acting in bad faith by taking this to the media and representing the facts poorly. Russilo ran down the ways in which their public statement was a crock - most notably because it (the contract language in question) is not the standard for the NFL in general and the NFL ownership has already significantly lowered the amount of money they spend on high draft picks - a fact the Chargers simply ignore and probably represent as the opposite.

I asked earlier if the NFLPA would even let him sign at this point (if they could actually stop him).

no doubt that as of now both sides are losers; however, there is a bigger loser...and it is the guy who presumably is not wealthy losing out on a scrooge mcduck fortune than the team that will still be a team, still have payroll, etc.

I kind of defer to the chris rock line "big deal, you ain't starving"

nah, cities apparently will nuke their downtown area for an nfl team, so I think they're fine in that regard.

I haven't watched football since the saints/giants shootout and I don't plan on it, but I do enjoy a good negotiations break down

His family is pretty well off. I'm not saying they have millions but his dad was a first rounder and so was his uncle, and they seem to have done ok for themselves based on everything I know

You're just wrong. Is there some earlier story about Bosa that makes you dislike him personally? Because that's the only way I can imagine you reading my post and concluding the Chargers were acting in their own best interests or losing less than the player.

It makes no sense whatsoever.

Relative to the fortune he may lose, they're bums

I'm just saying I feel worse for him than the Chargers. hes the bigger loser if a deal isn't done. Right now he's the bigger loser if the Chargers don't cave

I don't know who he is, and I don't care. It's just my admittedly not well informed opinion based on abstract reasoning

it's just my impartial opinion

I met Ed fisher a couple of weeks ago (badass lineman for the oilers) and he had fascinating thoughts on the subject of the business of the nfl and it was a mix of different outlooks

Yeah, no.

He will lose some money but the organization's history of having trouble with their players is now in the spotlight.

No reasonable person thinks it is the player's fault when other teams don't have the same problems.

But I don't think it's anyone's fault I've said that

No doubt it's bad for the Chargers, but proportionally speaking the individual who may have lost a fortune is the creamy end of the turd

Nah, I won't repeat it. It's not my place, but I will say it's not what you expect to hear. On some subjects it is, but not all...I didn't know who he was for the first 2 hours I was at this get together.

He was awesome to listen to though, and it's always a plus when you don't read the person correctly from the outset

What do you want? I didn't think anyone knew who the guy was.

I don't want him reading this, not liking what I have to say because he knows how to find me
