The 54-year-old German was found to have transferred hundreds of thousands of pounds after his June 2017 bankruptcy from his business account to other accounts, including those of his ex-wife Barbara and estranged wife Sharlely "Lilly" Becker.

I thought the UK left the EU to drop this shite.

Over here in the US it's illegal to imprison people for bankruptcy.

London decided to take a case from 20 years ago from another country?

frick you guys

That’s not what he’s being imprisoned for. If he did the same thing in the US he’d be facing up to 5 years in prison

He would be imprisoned in the UK for a bankruptcy law in Germany from 20 years ago in the US?

Explain more in detail for such arguments.

Fraud in Germany is not US law standards.

It's absurd they would even try this in the UK alone

Try reading my post again and focus on the part where I stated “if he did this in the US”

Bankruptcy fraud in the US is punishable with up to 5 years in prison. Simple as that.

ETA idk what you mean by 20 years ago. Says in the OP the fraud took place in 2017

Even if we could compare whatever laws they are using. Federal laws on that have a five year statute of limitations.

This is from 20 years ago.

From another country.

Someone is doing a classic targeting on him alone. That is wholly questionable.

Not same country. Not same laws. Not same decades.

The court case is from 2003 in Germany by the way

No it’s not. He filed bankruptcy in London in 2017 and this is the result of it.

It’s not the same thing as his tax evasion case 20 years ago

They are using the case from 2003 to claim fraud.

In a separate country.

This is not okay.

Because he committed the fraud in 2017 and the bankruptcy went through a London bank.

He’s not going to prison for declaring bankruptcy. He’s going to prison for hiding funds and not following the bankruptcy ruling laid down in 2017

From everything I’ve been able to find about this, It has nothing to do with his tax evasion case and I’m starting to think you may be a crazy person

ETA this case stemmed from a 2013 Loan he received (in London) from this bank.

Divorce is expensive

quote:

Becker was granted a divorce on 15 January 2001: Barbara received a $14.4 million settlement, their condominium on Fisher Island, Florida, and custody of their children.

I believe one of the ways he hid money was buying a flat in London. I think he may have put it in a child’s name. He is guilty.

Sure makes it a lot less attractive to use your own money on something in London.

Of course this will be overturned.

But Jesus. That is not what society set courts up for. Sending you to prison for your own dollars because well equity

Looks pretty damn good for 53 imo. I bet he could still get out there at Wimbledon and advance to the 3rd round.

No doubt. Me too. Probably because we are.
