No. I'm saying the system is a joke.
In some ways it is. Most FBS caliber programs are semi pro schools where athletes can get an education instead of direct wages.
If the athlete doesn't value an education, it's on him.

Guys like Jones are such hypocritical jokes. They know how you can work hard without being an athlete or rapper and achieve in the black community. They know just how much an education is worth. I have no data to support this, but I would logically propose that an education is worth infinitely more for a black man than a white one. It is the great equalizer. Why shite on it?

Goes against the agenda.

If that were the case, then graduation rates would be much higher. If you think just anyone can graduate after four years of college, then there's a huge problem with higher education in general.
You think the main reason graduation rates in 4 years aren't higher because they just aren't "capable" of graduating? Going to college and not graduating means you just didn't care why you were there for 99% of them

Do you really think this applies to guys like Todd Marinovich and Vince Young?

Those 2?No doubt about it.
Sorry, fact is these guys are FAR better off attending a big time college than not.Once again, what's your alternative to the current system?JC route?Segregated PBI's?Not recruit them at all?

So are u concerned only about the stars or the entire teams? Cause you state graduation rates which applies to everyone and then just mention a couple huge name guys. Oh and the graduation rates are higher than normal students like the other poster just said
ETA: and for the thousands that don't go pro they already have tons of connections thru the football program or they can just drop that they played for X team in college and they will most definitely have a greater chance at a job after college
I'm not opposed to different options for athletes to get paid and all that, but I also don't think they're getting totally screwed over. And I'm talking in terms of the average player here

I mentioned overall graduation rates. Not for student athletes on major football programs. Those are a farce.

Isn't this thread about the athletes?

Did you even bother to look at what I was responding to when I mentioned graduation rates?

I just posted football graduation rates for SEC schools.
Don't know what you consider a farce but they're sure as hell are a huge improvement from 20 years ago.

Yes I did. In which I said people who end up not graduating is because they just didn't care, not because they're not capable. Then you responded by mentioning Marinovich and Vince Young so I assumed we were back on the athlete topic
Anyways I really don't have a strong opinion one way or the other because i agree with a bunch of points that relate to both sides of the argument.

Why do people insist on pretending that these great athletes get a "great education" when everyone with half a brain knows that's not why they're there, and not why they were heavily recruited to their respective schools.
Sorry that these athletes don't take advantage of the free education they get for being heavily recruited. Their general studies and communication degrees are worthless? Shocker. Maybe they should put in some work off the field too. And no that doesn't mean what they do at Florida State in sexual assault cases.

Jones calling the well wishes "hollow" because of an opinion Kanell has on how much CFB players should get paid?
Bet you Chubb has had that barely cross his mind, and is thinking positively about what he'll have to do to rehab his leg. Jones is talking about stipends that wouldn't pay for one millionth of the value of the care that he will receive from UGA medical doctors.
Why do we listen at all to these clowns?
