Bats have been toned down in college. In the past, college was lucky the way those balls were coming off the bat. shite still comes at you fast though

Its a freak occurance. More fans get hurt with fouls than pitchers get hurt. Thinm about the millions of pitches that occur a year and it happens maybe once a year.
Say we over react and put helmets on them. Now a helmet comes loose and gets in his eyes as he releases. Now instead of a chance to get his glove up ans defend himself he's blinded by a helmet and body is wide open, ball may even line drive a helmet on his face.

It sucks. But its plenty safe way it is

Scary thing is the fact that it hit him in the side of the hide. Only person ever to die playing MLB was hit in the side of the head. Spooky stuff.

While it may be a freak occurrence, there is really no good reason to not have some protective gear on the pitchers head.

It doesn't have to be full blown batting helmet. Some kind of modified soft rugby head gear should do.

It won't happen. A helmet will ruin some of their necks.
