He might not line up in the same place every play, but when you look at Mario Williams(Who is one of the 2-3 best pass rushers in the NFL) he is going to be going up against the LT on a significant majority of plays.

Maybe, I dunno. Been a while since I read it and can't find my copy. It also has to do with holding calls from the other o-line positions etc. I can't really rebut anything since I don't remember it (it was nothing earth shattering though, and I was disappointed by the book).

its still the most valuable position on the oline by far. Its not hard to find serviceable guards

Especially since teams by draft a LT often improve more than one position on their OLine.

You can maybe move your old LT to RT and if your old RT was big enough move him to G which bumps the worst player from your line.

That ignores the fact that the other teams best pass rusher usually lines up against the LT

usually, but not always.

the thing about LTs is they're rare

on top of that, top LTs rarely hit FA and almost all of the good ones are drafted in the top 40 picks

What if your QB is left-handed?

You move your Lt to RT and any time someone would say LT you say RT

Found an article by the writer, KC Joyner, FWIW:

"“Blindsided” says that left tackles are important in some ways but that teams often win titles without possessing superior skill at that position. The under appreciated theme of the 49ers story in “The Blind Side” is that they won one Super Bowl with a career backup left tackle and another one with an overweight underachiever at that position. As much as “The Blind Side” touts the importance of the weakside pass blocker, it concurs with Blindsided’s contention that teams can and do win championships without top quality left tackles."

Here's the book SFP is referencing. I haven't read it yet, but I read footballoutsiders.com's Pro Football Reference every year, which is a very in depth statistical analysis of football.

I may pick up Blindsided, though, since I'm looking for a new read for the week.
