Besides, the kid is almost irrelevant because that money is going straight to the mother who will use almost all of it on herself and her lifestyle. The kid will see a small portion of it.
These sort of insane child support payments create the lottery effect where gold diggers are intentionally seeking out rich men and trying to get pregnant by them, so they can cash in on one of these child support lottos.
It's a sick system.

Obviously true.
The supposed intention of these settlements is to improve the life of children. But the net effect is to incentivise the creation of unwanted children for profit.
And the primary investment in children is not money, it is time. The financial investment is obviously in the low thousands until you start talking about the cost of schooling - and that kind of payment should be made directly to the school from the supporting parent, not given as supplemental income to the other parent.
