I posted the actual facts that south la did in fact have blizzard conditions as announced by the National weather service
Blizzard conditions doesn't equal Blizzard. It has to do with sustained conditions.
quote:
What is a blizzard?
Blizzards are dangerous winter storms that are a combination of blowing snow and wind resulting in very low visibilities. While heavy snowfalls and severe cold often accompany blizzards, they are not required. Sometimes strong winds pick up snow that has already fallen, creating a ground blizzard.
Officially, the National Weather Service defines a blizzard as a storm which contains large amounts of snow OR blowing snow, with winds in excess of 35 mph and visibilities of less than 1/4 mile for an extended period of time (at least 3 hours).
Blizzard conditions often develop on the northwest side of an intense storm system. The difference between the lower pressure in the storm and the higher pressure to the west creates a tight pressure gradient, or difference in pressure between two locations, which in turn results in very strong winds. These strong winds pick up available snow from the ground, or blow any snow which is falling, creating very low visibilities and the potential for significant drifting of snow.

I think it will likely be defined as a super blizzard then because I couldn’t see 1/8 of a mile down the street for over 5 hours with sustained winds
Sorry you Midwest baws are mad

We're the winds over 35 mph?
And I'm not mad. I've never lived through a blizzard either.

The gusts, yes
quote:
1. Sustained wind or frequent gusts of 35mph or greater.
2. Considerable falling and/or blowing snow reducing visibility to under a quarter mile.
3. These conditions have to continue for at least three consecutive hours!

We're not talking about intermittent gusts.
I haven't seen any official reports of an actual blizzard, just the blizzard warnings.
Either way, it was epic weather

Quite literally you have the NWS saying it was “blizzard conditions”
Y’all fricking argue more than me on cocaine. I’m sure they will come out with an official diagnoses in a week or so

You can have Blizzard conditions for 5 minutes, that doesn't make it a blizzard. That's the entire point.

There was a blizzard warning in Louisiana, there was defined blizzard conditions from the NWS, I will come update the thread in a few weeks for you and high c after the official prognosis is made

I originally said that I would stop short of calling it a blizzard. That’s all. This will be my last response here because it really doesn’t matter.
I’ve lived through several tornado warnings. Never been hit by a tornado. The NWS regularly says that there are conditions favorable to tornado development. Doesn’t mean tornadoes always develop. You can’t seem to separate this language from its same application to a blizzard.
As far as an update in a week or so, don’t bother. I couldn’t care less.

There is a whole lot of Louisiana out there beyond your front yard

This was my street yesterday morning at 9am, it snowed here until 2:30, maybe even 3. Front yard measured 11.5”.
